I think the thugs are moving to Phase 3 of the Coronavirus plan early. Aren't they supposed to refrain from more than one killing per day until Friday?

It is good to see no Police were shot at in any of these three stories.

I hope they were at least wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Otherwise they could be putting people at risk!

Waiting for the "local leaders" to come out against shooting at Police. (Holds breath, turns blue, passes out...)/

No... see... THIS is where they come out for “gun control”.
You know... trying to restrict my rights because of dumbass behavior their “community” engages in daily.

That's gotta be one of the shortest statutes of limitations I've ever heard of. :n00b:

It's not a statute of limitations question, it's that they weren't getting convictions on it absent other factors (like a known suspect, video showing the steal, etc)

Attorney: Where'd you get the car, client of mine?
Sumdood: I bought it on Craigslist. I needed reliable transportation to take food to homeless orphans and a great deal popped up.
Attorney: Did you know it was stolen?
Sumdood: It was stolen??!!! Is that what this is all about?

    *reasonable doubt established*

    Not guilty verdict.

Is anyone ever convicted of being in possession of stolen goods? Isn't that law still on the books? And if not, then why do we as gun owners worry about whether a gun might be stolen or not when we buy one off someone we don't know?

And in your example, does Sumdood have the title and proper paperwork and registration showing that it was purchased off someone on craigslist?

To your last point do you realize how many cars, boat, motorcycles, etc are bought and sold without titles? Over the years I've looked at 2 cars, a pickup and a boat that when we got to the paperwork and asked about the title heard; "Yeah. . . . . about the title. . . .while it's my brothers car, he's in prison and can't find the title but promises to send it to you when he gets out". Uh yeah, just have him call me when he gets out.

I've bought a boat and trailer without a title, but I couldn't plate it until I had it checked by the police to make sure it wasn't stolen. :dunno:

I bought a car a couple of years ago, one of those "sitting behind the barn for 30 years" deals. I tried to have the VIN run to insure it wasn't stolen, BMV said to go to the cops, cops said go to the BMV. Ended up getting hold of a former cop buddy of mine that took care of it for me. Took him about a week to call in the favor but it turned out well.

How many times does that work?
After they've been picked up 3 or 4 times in a stolen vehicle is that excuse still valid?

    (probably printcraft, probably) :(

"How about this weed in your pocket?"
"Man, these ain't even my pants man."
"Whose pants are they and why are you wearing them?"
"Man, look, somebody put them on me while I was sleeping."
"Sounds reasonable, you're free to go."

"Knowingly and intentionally " is a requirement. Introduce reasonable doubt the suspect knew, suspect is legally not guilty.

We have to prove he's guilty (beyond a reasonable doubt) and with the admissible evidence. He doesn't have to prove he's innocent. Part of those constitutional rights folks have.

If you buy a stolen gun and it gets confiscated to return to its rightful owner, you probably won't get a refund from the seller.

If it was stolen when they checked, should you have been arrested for possession of stolen property?

No, because I followed the legal procedure. If I had not plated it, not registered the boat, and tried towing it on public roads and using it on public waters, then yes. So in the case of Sumdood, if he has no evidence that he "bought it off craigslist" and no evidence that he has gone through the legal procedures of trying to get it registered and titled, then yes he should IMHO. It's not about proving innocence. It's about showing that you followed legal procedure to the best of your ability, and failing that, there should be legal consequences, don't you think?

He has to prove his innocence? I thought it was the other way around?

Maybe I worded it badly, but I don't think that's proving his innocence. I think it would allow the officer to prove that he's not following the law. What do you suppose would happen if you were driving a car with no plates, no title, no evidence that you'd just bought it (bill of sale) and hadn't had a chance to get to the BMV, etc.? I mean, if there are no consequences, then I'd be all for doing away with vehicle registration altogether. :yesway:

On the other hand, if he had that documentation, then that would be his defense in a court of law. While we don't have to prove our innocence, we may have to mount a defense to refute an accusation of guilt, do we not?

DD you are usually very reasonable.

We all have rights, they are designed to protect you and me.

They are generally used by lawyers to protect miscreants.
Benjamin Franklin stated it as: "it is better 100 guilty Persons should escape than that one innocent Person should suffer".
