If you had a G-daughter that loved the experience you would. I am sure of it.

I'd sooner construct a literal movie theater in my house... and I'm already half way there. If I didn't have to sell my prior house, I'd be there by now.

edit: Obviously that's not a prescription for everybody, but, I'm already on that road. :)

Our home entertainment is pretty spot on but no where near the Imax experience.

The granddaughters dictate the movie experience from the movie choice (with adult input) to the snacks. It isn't about the movie, it's about the smiles on their faces and the time shared. My twin granddaughters are 12 now and I dread when they decide I'm no longer cool enough to be seen with in public.

    Just read the whole thread.

I have bought and sold here. I have met really good friends here. Been to their homes. Met their wives. Shown up unannounced and didn't get shot.

I may be addicted to INGO and the community here, but there are worse things I could be addicted to.

It's just like hot rodding... How fast do you wanna go? :spend:

Keeping in mind the much smaller auditorium of a personal theater...

My sound already surpasses every theater I've ever been in except the Omnimax in Chicago, and it's been so long since I've been there that I may not be that far off. Much like this iMax demo, I also have 18s in my home theater with a few horsepower of amps behind them with a few more planned in the future. If I put a row of candles in front of my port I'm sure I could blow them out too... I'm going for a recreation of the water glass scene from Jurassic Park, and I'm this close. I could get ripples in a glass of water on a solid wood coffee table, but just sissy little ones and only if I pushed really hard.

Picture is where I'm going to have a problem. Consumer electronics have given up on home 3D some time ago and a genuinely good 3D projector is about $20k+. I'm not actually adverse to that investment, just not right now and obviously not at a rented house. Sadly, even my "real" sound gear is in storage. No room and something tells me that the landlord wouldn't think it was too funny when light fixtures started falling down and bulbs started blowing out (both of those happened at my last house) or when he started getting calls from the cops. Anyhow, my temporary fix was going to be a 86" TV (and a new AR :) ) at tax refund time, but clearly that's all on hold now.

So anyhow... It's a legitimate life goal for me and I feel it's achievable, at least in venue that seats far fewer people that a commercial theater. I'd rather spend my money on equipment than Hollywood, personally.

edit: I also already have a popcorn machine. :)

...also just learned I can actually buy a home version of an Omnimax!

I would rather deal on INGO than armslist.. less worry about being robbed, shot, stolen goods if purchasing. On here I know that most of these dudes are cool, honest fun guys/gals. I enjoy meeting INGO peeps. Some are a wealth of knowledge. I said some...

A long, long time ago when I was a young pup I use to hang out in the 2nd hand stores on Sat. I bought my first rifle, without an adult,
when I was 12 and my first handgun when I was 17. On one of those visits to a 2nd hand store I heard the owner and a woman talking. She was apparently trying to sell something. I remember his response going something like this --"No lady, we do not buy antiques. We buy junk. We sell antiques." This story repeats itself often with buyer/sellers of firearms.

Yeah, I have a used Glock 23 Gen 3, police turn in, like new in box with some scratches on the frame and a dinged muzzle. No box. And don't try to lowball me. I know what I got.

My last gunbroker purchase wound up being a FTF transaction. I happened to notice that the seller was from Noblesville, and he agreed to meet me at Cabela's up there. Saved me 30 or 35 bucks in shipping, and he turned out to be a good guy. I was surprised he wasn't an INGO member. I just handed out the URL for INGO to the nephew of the electrician that did my service upgrade yesterday. Sounds like he's quite a collector (said he owns over 350 guns - mostly from an inheritance). I hope he decides to become a member here. :)

ETA: I warned him that he might get razzed as a new member, and informed him of the 50 quality posts/Site Supporter rule for the classifieds. :): But I also told him of all the really good people on here and the friends that I've made through this site.

Laughed myself silly on this one. I totally pictured Pat McManus hanging out at Groggan's Army Surplus. If you don't know what I am talking about you need to look up the author Pat McManus and his books about kid camping and outdoor humor. This crowd seems like the right kind of people to get the humor.

I found the clip of Pat McManus like telling one of his stories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eKEgtappZg I actually think they read funnier but this isn't bad. Check them out you won't be disappointed.

By the way I have found Ingun folks very helpful. I don't post much but read a lot and I got plenty of advice on several questions I posted and help with my first AR build. Some of the advice was even helpful. :):

And to think.... all for the low, low price of a 50 post admission :)

My wife asked me the other day while we were waiting for an INGO purchaser to show up: "Aren't you ever concerned about who might be showing up?" I reminded her about the very first purchase I'd made on INGO many many years ago.... she had accompanied me on the trip to Speedway. I can't even remember what I purchased, but I DO remember who I purchased it from. Church Mouse. I remember how he was standing on the street side to help waive us in.... traffic was.... rather overwhelming. How he introduced us to his wife. How he gave us a tour of the mouse compound. How he showed us his tv/monitor/stereo set up. How he showed us some of his gun collection. We spent over an hour there. All because of a rather inexpensive gun purchase.... and CM's enormous generosity.

Ever since, I've always tried to repay the kindness. I've met at houses, parking lots and parks.... many times after dark. Afraid.... NO.

INGO classifieds are kinda like a Democratic Society...... it ain't perfect, but it's the best we got. And it works for me :)

I really hate to haggle, but if I don't like someone's price, I may make an offer of about 10% off. Any more than that is an insult. If they say 'firm', I respect that and either buy it or keep on moving. I do hate it when a seller says 'firm' and then sells it for less.

I lived in Indonesia for thirteen years, and Jamaica for six years, In both beautiful countries haggling is an art form. In both countries, based on my experience as a foreigner, one begins the process by offering no more than 50% of the asking price. I often visited China, Vietnam, Thailand, and India. In those countries the first offer may be as low as 30% of the asking price. In China, I learned not even to ask the price if I knew it was outrageous. There was one place that had their goods price 8-10X open market prices because they were serving primarily Western tourists. I refused even to make an offer to those vendors.

If you see anything more than 10% under asking price as an insult, please be sure you post that in your offer to sell. Some of us may insult you unintentionally because of our past experience. When haggling, I do normally being at 50% of asking price.

There's a big difference between a third world country market trinket and say a Glock 19, I bet you don't get very far coming out the gate at 50%

Agreed. Goes to knowing the market on the items you are looking at as well. In the examples of other countries, the low offer was warranted because they were well over priced. Doing that on an item that one knows to be appropriately priced as it relates to current market conditions, yeah, that would get a hard pass from me as a seller for sure. I' not even going to honor that kind of offer with a rebuttal. Now if someone comes with an offer that isn't crazy, I'll come back with something I'd be willing to do, if other conditions (ease of transaction, location, etc) are good. A 50% offer is just trying to sucker me as a seller into negotiating from that ridiculous level.
