People all agree that the killings need to stop but don't seem to want to do anything about it. Most don't see it in they're neighborhoods so it's not really their problem. People don't seem to mind paying for the Colts, Pacers, Soccer teams or even a bus line that no one will use but add a tax for more police, courts and jails and they loose their minds. Priorities need to be readjusted.

People in this country would rather be set on fire than be forced to face uncomfortable truths. As long as they can watch American Idol and grab their Starbucks on the way to work they're more than happy to remain blissfully ignorant of the world around them.

That said, we really don't need more police, courts or jails. What we need is for the police to be given back their ability to police, courts encouraged to actually hold people responsible for their actions rather than finding excuses for their behavior and jails/prisons to be operated like jails/prisons rather than country clubs. Right now, this very instant, a POS scumbag named Ben Ritchie is sitting in the Pendleton Correctional Facility on death row and petting the cat he is allowed to have in his cell. Ritchie murdered Beech Grove Officer William Toney almost 17 years ago. Just look at the mitigating circumstances taken into consideration during his sentencing: RITCHIE, BENJAMIN DONNIE # 98

I'm on a ride and just saw this in Michigan. Prayers for the family and those affected. Any information on the killer? I couldn't find anything about him at all, not even a name.

Jason "inkman" Brown, 28 yr old skinny white tweakeresque looking tattoo artist, is who is in custody. Looks like not much history, at least as an adult.

A "kid" at work was telling me this today. Gave the usual he was a good guy speech. He claims he had to have just snapped for what ever reason.
I couldn't listen to it anymore and walked away from the conversation.

Went to walmart tonight and bought a new blue light bulb.

Best call you could make. I did get drawn in and will need a few more drinks to keep my head from exploring. This is why we can't have nice things.

I ain't mad at ya. It infuriates me that this is how we treat cop killers in Indiana. He should live out the rest of his days standing in a 2'x2'x6' cell. Let him out for 15 minutes once a day to use the restroom provided he has behaved himself. So much as a dirty look at anyone and it skips a day. Instead, he gets to lay on his fat ass all day watching television and petting his kitty whose food, litter and veterinary needs are paid for by the citizens of the state. What makes it worse is that apparently there is at least one person in Indiana who had to have advocated for this to be allowed. I say give him a 3'x3'x6' cell and they should share it with him.

    Guess I'm a bad person

I agree totally. All murderers and child molesters at least should get this kind of justice. These bleeding hearts that want to treat bad criminals with kindness need to go away and we have the power to make it happen if people rally and also get off their fat asses and make calls and write letters. But so many people complain on the internet and have never wrote a letter to their representation and some aren't even registered to vote. They should be punched in the nuts. And that comment probably just triggered some stupid **** that's gonna tell me that's against the law and constitution. Shakes my head

Shooter had some minor history, but what would prompt him to shoot at a cop who came to the scene for no other reason but to help except pure cowardice?

God bless this officer who died helping someone, no a coward, who didn't deserve it.

Back when he was in the county jail awaiting trial, I had the experience to taking that SOB to court. When my partner and I (we had 2 deputies assigned to that court) cuffed him, shackled him and searched him before taking him to court was all to discript of what he would do to us if he had the chance. He is a first rate special kind of POS. He was so proud of what he had done that he got a jailhouse tattoo of a badge with Officer Toney's badge number on it. Convicts in cases like these should be fast tracked to get the needle in their arm

I put out blue lights when Renn was killed and changed my FB pic to the thin blue line and tried to show my support for fallen LEOs but today was my first time putting on a mourning band and it was so weird it gave me chills. i went ahead and drove down to the memorial and again it was so much different than i thought it would be. It wasn't like before where i could do something and forget about it for a while, every time i went for a pen or to key my mic i glanced at my badge and was reminded. I will say i saw a ton of support for first responders today while on my shift.

The backstory on the cat thing is that the cats found their own way into Michigan City's death row and were found to have a mitigating effect on the inmates' generally less than stellar behavior and as a result became officially accepted. Personally, I can think of more fitting ways to modify behavior, but that is what happened.

With IMPD's honor guard assisting with the funeral he should get a beautiful send off.
For those that haven't seen it, Emmy award winning IMPD officer Shelnutt made this tribute to Perry. It gives a good idea of what a fallen officer's funeral looks like.

For the record, the picture of him walking his kid to school and knowing he can't do it again bothers me to my core. I'm interested in learning the shooter's motive.
