Excellent move, just a shame its come down to this. Our military men and women should've never been disarmed in the first place.

Interesting legal question. Are these recruiting centers considered federal facilities? If so it would seem that the federal law prohibiting weapons in federal facilities would prevail. Great move anyway, our soldiers should never be forced to be sitting ducks.

National Guard are not federal. They are state controlled. US Army, Marines, etc. are still sitting ducks.

Just talked to a navy recruiter said they are not to wear uniform to and from the recruitment centers and while in uniform they can not carry a firearm. They can have in personal car but not on them or in the recruitment center. This is a Navy recruiter so not sure about other branches but he said that Pence rule will not help or apply to him sadly.

I haven't read all the details about his exec order, but my instincts are that this will apply to State Guard units only. Reserve units are straight federal, recruiting offices etc are federal, local national guard units are likely all thatll be effected.

Bean counters and politicians (both the elected kind and the kind that wear stars).

I said it in another thread, but the military is basically a numbers game. Some bean counter works out how many troops they think they'll lose if they don't arm them. Then they figure out how many they think they will lose if they do arm them. At best, whichever they decide will cost the fewest men is the direction they take. At worst, the bean counter gets told how to redistribute the beans to support the decision the command staff has already made.

We are all Indiana residents. He has just called for us all to arm and be prepared to meet the threat.

You think the 19 year old PFC in the National Guard will not be armed on those days he is not wearing BDU's issued by the State? He has total justification to be armed by this Governor proclamation. It does not matter what local law is for the carrying of firearms. The NG soldier can always be enroute to the Armory.....

It changes everything. For all of us.

    Open your mind.

So the NG will have to come and protect the Active Duty. Makes all kinds of historic sense actually.

Army and Air Force National Guard facilities are considered "federal property" for purposes of gun bans. Of course, the Governor, as the CinC of his State's National Guard, has the authority to upgrade the Threat Level as necessary, and I'm guessing that's what this latest decision is: upping the Threat Level to one which requires the facilities to have armed guards. Depending upon funding, this will either be Guard soldiers on State Active Duty or civilian contractors (who may be Guardsmen). Unfortunately, this WON'T mean that all Guard troops working at these facilities will be armed; in most cases, it will just be a single armed guard, with no easy backup if someone drives up to him and shoots him dead.
