I'd like to start a thread in which people can tell their story of a self defense situation.I think this would be a useful thread because,in reading these stories,we can become better educated. We can learn what to do and what not to do in a bad situation.Obviously those who have a case pending or other legal issues that have to be dealt with are encouraged to wait, but for those who are already through the ordeal, please educate the rest of us.Please keep this to personal experiences because some of those "my uncle's co-worker's cousin" stories tend to be lacking in detail or possibly even truth.

Thanks for the suggestion 88GT,please don't play armchair commando and tell a SURVIVOR what they did wrong or how they should've done things. The point is that they SURVIVED to tell the tale and that's all that matters.

It'd be great to get enough responses and interest for this to be stickied for all members to see.

Probably ought to stipulate no Monday morning quarterbacking. Someone will think someone did it wrong and be a dick about telling him so.

Well ok, i guess I'll go. It may not be self defense in the true sense, but its as close as I ever want to get.

This is the incident that caused me to buy a gun (6 years ago) My wife and I have a small 3 season porch out front with a screen door. Most of the time the screen door is locked but sometimes (if we're expecting a package et cetera) we'll leave it unlocked.

when I say porch, It has wood laminate flooring, indoor chairs, book case and rugs. As far as I'm concerned if you're in my "porch" you're in my house since you had to open a door to get in. So it's about 8:30-9ish on a week day and we hear a knock on our big door (meaning somebody has opened the screen door and is standing on the porch.)

Like an idiot, I open the door. There is a girl standing there with a pretty big dude, 6-3 270 lbs ish. (Im 5-9 180) The girl asks if we want to buy detergent. I decline. The girl says she used to live in my house and begins to look past me and comment on the painting we did in the kitchen. After a few awkward moments back and forth I again decline the detergent and wish them well.

The big guy then takes a step forward, puts the detergent down on my kitchen floor and starts to tell me what a good cause it is. That freaks me out because now he's very much in my house and i tell him he needs to go, we're not interested. The girl says ya, lets go. Guy takes the detergent and leaves.

when they left I told my wife I was buying a gun. Got my 92 FS a month later. If that dude had done anything my wife and I would have been powerless to stop it. Still gives me chills thinkin about it.
