I moved this comm at from an LGS thread, I'd like outside of Vigo
Comments of course but anyone know how local LEOs react to
Citizens carry? I heard that city cops (TH) sometimes harass concealed
and that the county Sheriff's office hassles the OC folks to the point
that one guy was noting that in the LGS and got into an argument
with the LGS owner... Here is my comment:

I'd like to know more about the LEO's here in TH and especially
how the Sheriff views Gun Confiscation. We NEED a Sheriff with
Big Cajoñes that will stand up for the 2nd Amendment. PERIOD.
No ifs, ands, or buts. If the current Sheriff is a waffler in this area
I will vocally back a stronger candidate. Buck Ofama and frankenfeinstein,
and all their DEMOniCRAT ilk. And I can say that, I'm a registered Democrat
Since I was 18!!! Jeffersonian Democrat, and proud of it!
So I'd like to know what our local Sheriff thinks of SHTF and gun grabbing.
Anyone know of any track record in this area? Please Enlighten Me!

You need a Sheriff that will support the 2A and you, but that Sheriff needs to know you will support him also. If he needs you to man up and come forward for duty as a field-sworn Deputy you need to be willing and able to do so. Loyalty is a two-way Street.

By the way, IMO, the Jack Kennedy Democrats are todays Socialist and the Reganite Republicans are todays Democrats.

My Lincolnian Republicans and your Jeffersonian Democrats no longer exist. Truth hurts donut.

The Sheriff of Wabash County, Bob Land, is Pro Citizens Carry and Pro-2A and recently in a Q&A Stated that he would fight to defend the CONSTITUTION as that is what he swore to protect. Take that from it what you will, But Sheriff Land is a Good Guy with a Gun!

My thinking EXACTLY on the support/loyalty thing. I have tried
numerous times and avenues to contact the reserve deputy program
in Vigo County, and never ever heard back. Emails, phone calls and
a visit to the Sheriff's Office/Jail. Nothing. Email was said to be their
preferred method of contact. IDK but they seem to use the reserves
as a feeder program for new deputies. Maybe they are full up.

PS: Jeffersonian Dems have an online presenxe

This is what I'd like to hear in Vigo County. But I have heard that
local LEO discourages carry either open (sheriff) or concealed (city).
I live outside the city but venture in frequently. It is a real concern IMO

I can tell you with 100% that the Vigo County Sheriff does not support any kind of new form of gun control. I am friends with him since I was in high school and he was the school liaison officer. His proposal for more guns in school (more cops) should show that. I cannot speak for the Terre Haute Police Chief, but know officers think that new gun control will do nothing.

It's still Greg Ewing? I just moved back into TH from Bloomington.
I would be tickled to death to think that I was in a county where
the county Sheriff was true to the 2A! Some of the things I have
Read on INGO made me wonder about the LEO's. if they have a few
quirks about particular modes of carry I can probably live with that,
as long as I know the rules. Seems one guy had been hassled for
Open Carry by VCSD but then again he did not mention where he
tried to carry openly. I can see the Sheriff wanting folks to use good
Common Sense in deciding to carry openly or concealed. I was born
and raised here and intend to stay put as long as out local LEOs have
our backs. I would like to let them know that I have their back if they
ever need me. Not sure how to do this, however...

    Thx Again TERREHAUTIAN!

It is Greg Ewing. I don't know the story on the hassle part, but as much as I would like it, not every deputy is going to know every law no matter what. WTHI did a story on gun sales being up and interviewed the TH police chief, when I get the link, I will post the story.

I have no experience with county but I have had a lot of experience with THPD and most of it has been routine but a few have been down right idiots about it. The thing I hated the most was as soon as they found out I was carrying, they automaticly cuffed me put me in the squad car and searched my car without even asking. Not that I would have said no but they just acted above the law and like I was *****. The State PD on the other hand were totally different, they were cool and just doing their job.

BTW this is all CC as I dont OC

    I don't understand!
If you only conceal carry, how does the officer know you are carrying? If you are telling them, than that is your own fault!
Also, I find it extremely hard to believe that ANY officer has searched your car without asking for and receiving your consent!

I'm trying to figure out if I want to CC with a permit NOW or
just wait for SHTF and say screw the permit. IMO a permit is
a great idea unless it brings excessive trouble if you get pulled
over for a simple traffic stop. I'm not a perfect driver, but I had
better continue to improve, as it seems there is more revenue
generating ticketing going on all the time.

    Thanks for your commentary

    Clay County
I live in Clay County but OC in Vigo and TH all the time and the only issue I ever had with a Vigo LEO and it wasn't really an issue is one asked me why I carry one time at the Vigo County Fair...to which I responded because it's my legal right and for the same reason you carry....He just grinned and said good answer..lol...I've heard of THPD harrasing OCers but haven't seen or dealt with it personally. I can tell you that Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton is Pro 2A and has no issues with folks legally carrying in CC.

My only issue with Mr. Ewing is what he said in an interview on TV-10 in January about sporting rifles. He did not think citizens should have them, and was holding a police issue AR (which I am sure had the fun switch), and stated he did not think citizens should have these. He seems like a good guy and a good Sheriff but those comments disturb me as a citizen of the county. I live in out in the county and I think it could take 10 or more mins for a police officer (state or county) to get to my residence if they were called. Just my two cents on the local Sheriff.

I'm yet to meet anyone at VCSD that didn't want 100% of the good guys to carry 100% of the time, and I've had no issue OCing around THPD or ISP while in Vigo County.

I have seen gun stores in Vigo county preach that people should be OCing, and I've even seen them doing it in front of news cameras.

Keep your cool, learn the actual laws from the state website (not the I read it on an internet blog or heard it in a gun shop so it must be true stuff), follow the laws. In Indiana it's a much simpler process than other states to follow them. The ones you don't like, get on your Representatives to change.
