I can't remember the correct title, but it goes something like:

'49, '50, '51, '52.......... Automobilel

The character in the song work in an auto manufacturing plant and would "steal" parts over the years. When he put it together, it looked "freaky" - one headlight on one side, two on the other, one tailfin, etc. Then he went in to register it and "listed" the years (parts).

Found it. "One Piece at a Time" - 1976

I love that song! My dad used to listen to it and got me hooked on it. First time I heard it we were coming back from the Corvette Museum/Assembly Plant and my dad had cracked a joke about a guy who could have snuck a hood out of the plant under his shirt then we heard that song!
