I would like for my wife to come to this. It might be an issue as we live N of logansport but I will keep this in mind. Thanks for the info.

She's more than welcome to hit my place first and we can carpool down. The same goes for anybody else that lives north and east-ish of Paragon.

    I've got a few Q's

Would a kel tec P3at be ok for this training?

If not the wifey can borrow my XDm but would like for her to train with her carry weapon if possible.

Also, what is the plans for lunch?

    Training

My wife is a 68 year old granny that has never had anything to do with guns. I taught my daughters and son to shoot but she was never interested. To loud, to dangerous, to loud, to expensive, to loud, you get the picture.
Now she thinks it would be a good idea to be able to defend herself. We live in the country and I work late in the fields a lot of nights and am gone over night sometime.
Whats the best way to do this. Just bring her to the training never having shot a gun. Let her shoot some of my different calibers. Don't want to scare her of with to much recoil. Let her shoot my 22's first. I have a 380, 45, 38 special and several 22's available.
She really wants to try this but is pretty intimitated by the gun thing.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hickory, from your post it seems her main issue is the volume of the gun. My suggestion would be to take her and let her pick out her own hearing protection. That way it's personal to her. Start her out at close range (7 yards or so) with the .22 and get her comfortable and work her way up slowly. I would not even bring anything bigger on the first range trip. Let her go at her own pace.

This would be the perfect training for her too. I agree with Hammer, if she say's it's too loud then she doesn't have adequete hearing protection. You can also use double to get her used to it too. Put the foam ear plugs in and then muffs on also.

My daughter took the training with me last year and she hadn't really shot much. She took the training with a borrowed .22 pistol. The main thing is to show up with a learning attitude, a gun, ammunition, eye and ear protection, a holster and extra magazines for the gun.

Also don't worry about the age thing. There was a mix of ages last time and we all had a blast and learned a lot.

Hope to see her there this fall. Some husbands came last time, stayed in the background, helped out when something was needed, but mainly they were just there for support.

    Way Up North!!
I will have some of my guns there with me and anyone is more than welcome to use them for the shoot! all you would have to do is buy the ammo for them.

Also if you ladies have extra holsters or gear please remember to bring them, seems like someone is always leaving something behind! (read my hiding my own Easter eggs Sig line) so it would help if you all can bring your extra gear! I have 5 different .380 and I think that many 9mm as well as some .40's also! and a couple of 22's but you will be able to shoot larger than a 22 by the time we are into the class with no trouble at all! PM me if you think you want to use one of my guns, but they will all be there!

Oh! the number one thing forgotten is a belt for your holster! ;)

Hickory, we had a few older ladies there at the last training session. One of them told me how she was scared and hadn't ever really shot a gun before. She was very uncomfortable and scared at the beginning but by the middle of it all she sat down beside me and we had a chat. She said she was learning a lot and was already more comfortable shooting. By the end she told me it was the best time she's had in years and was very confident in her ability to defend herself.
Start her off with a 22 first and when SHE is ready let her shoot whatever she wants. And I second what everyone else said about hearing protection.

Will there be a "free" range time to try out different firearms/calibers? I can bring a few extras. Specifically: a 6" .357, a 2" .38 (which I recommend anybody try if they think they're going to be carrying one), several 9mm and a 1911 if anybody is in the mood. Plus I've got a new G17 that needs a try out.

I'm not real sure if we will have time or not? let me check with shadow and see what he has to say about free time and when it would be held! :D

Do I just need to show up on the 22nd at the range or is there some kind of registration?
