I like xd's , but personally I dont think our government agencies should federal or local should be buying weapons or vehicles not made in the USA

Clarksville, Indiana. One of the officers came in the shop and told me the worse part was trying to find duty rigs. He had to take a dremel to his Safariland (I think) duty rig to get the xd to fit. They just got them a year ago (XD's). This may change as we have a new police chief coming in as of January. They went from Sig 226R's to the XD's.

You can find XD's on quite a few "Approved for Carry" lists, but not nearly the number of of agencies have adopted the XD platform as an "Issued Handgun" as Glock, SIG, M&P or Beretta.

Some say that the lack of adoption is because Springfield does not play ball when it comes to price... I've seen more than once that the biggest reason that the XD is denied, is due to the trigger being classified by Springfield as Single Action. I have also seen reasons like Springfield's parts and replacement policy as being a non-starter for agencies.

This is list is all I could find, and is unconfirmed...

Makes me smile to see XDTalk referenced; I'm there too, because of the, well, XDm40 I have. In fact, I found them before I found us, but I have a higher round count here, so perhaps I can ask forgiveness?

I know lowell does but the officer I know doesnt seem to mind much. I was actually surprized when I saw it. My guess is these departments got a great deall and they came with all the goodies. Crappy as the goodies may be bean counters could care less.

Have they not looked at G-Code?

while I agree, right now I can think of only 1 US based manufacturer that could even hope of pulling this off. Besides, at least this means not every LEA hasn't drank the Glock :koolaid:

Meh. I doubt very many agencies issue Browning Hi Powers, but I am carrying one today. Don't see the relevance......... From what I can tell, XDs are good guns, although I only own one specimen.

I'm not sure Springfield was making a play for the LE market. Nothing I've seen or read indicates that. In fact, it seems to me the entire push of the XD line was to civilians who liked the simplicity of Glock action, but couldn't live without some sort of external safety. Springfield found a weapons platform that was Glock-like and added a grip button "safety." A relative has an XD, but I've never shot it. I really like the XDm capacity, but think that was kind of a slap in the face to the first generation XD owners (or are the guns really all that different?). I also heard that some officers fired an XD and didn't like it. This was third party info so I don't have all the details. Seems to me that a lot of people here like the pistol.

Now S&W has been trying to get into the LE market for years, and with good reason. I really do think having a large amount of LEOs carrying your products is almost like free advertising. There will always be that % of handgun owners who will worship whatever LEO seems to be favoring at that time. I just recently sold my S&W stock, but over the time I held it, they had a handful of agencies switching over to the M&P line. Recently they just got the Massachusetts and Vermont State Police Departments. S&W may finally have a pistol that will be serious competition with Glock. The XD or XDm could easily make inroads, but if Springfield isn't willing to deal, they likely won't see much in terms of PD acquisition.
