A No-Fly Zone will be exercised for 3 days over [STRIKE]Syria[/STRIKE] Chicago.

NATO Summits are great opportunities to practice martial law and roll out police state measures against citizens. This one in Chicago will be no different.

Cross the invisible line and you'll blown out of the sky.

By the way, the Restricted Airspace radius extends well into Lake & Porter Counties, in Indiana.

We haven't even begun to see what kind of measures they'll be taking on the ground. Stay the hell away from there between May 19-21.

No-Fly Zone To Be Enforced By Shoot-To-Kill Order During NATO Summit « CBS Chicago
Plans to keep residents and dignitaries safe during the NATO Summit include a no-fly zone, with a shoot-to-kill warning for those who break the ban. As CBS 2’s Susanna Song reports, the government is informing small plane pilots that if they enter the no-fly zone during the summit, they might be shot down.
This is no joke. It will be enforced for May 19 to May 21.
The flight advisory was issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. The advisory bans non-commercial aircraft from flying within 10 nautical miles of downtown Chicago at altitudes below 18,000 feet.

    "shoot-to-kill warning"

Same warning given to pilots who drift too close to the white house, pentagon and a number of other air space controlled locations across the country.

This is SOP. There will be clearance offered to certain flights. Local Samaritan choppers get clearance for medivacs and such.

This is no different than the airspace around AF1 or Marine 1 when the president flies.

Not news and has been happening for quite some time with political shake and howdies.

We exercise a shoot to kill policy towards unauthorized entry on our private property and have for years.

"Shoot-to-kill" isn't so unreasonable when one considers that AMRAAMs are not very good at simply wounding. Doubt we'll ever see such drastic measures though. Typical response is an intercept and warning. Releasing weapons would be a last resort.

There is something not right about this thread.

A TFR (temporary flight restriction) has not yet been issued for the dates listed, because it is too soon.

A TFR was issued for Columbus Ohio by the FAA today. I deleted it before I read the date of the TFR because I don't plan on going there any time soon. TFR's are posted on a pretty much weekly basis. I don't lose any sleep over them. A TFR was issued for the Superbowl in Indy a couple of moths ago. It didn't get this kind of attention....

When the TFR is issued for Chicago on the dates posted, I will post it here verbatim.

TFR's are NOT shoot to kill. They are sent out to all pilots and interested parties as an advisory, NOTAM. (Notice to Airmen)TFR's are not a secret to anyone with a pilot's license in the FAA's data base.

This is what a TFR looks like. It is not worth getting all worked up over.....And yes, any pilot can read and understand this very clearly.

If there is going to be a TFR over Chicago on the dates listed, it will be issued a couple of days before the event.

It is kind of like the MOA's (Military Operations Areas) in Indiana. When one is active, we try really, I mean really, hard to not be in that airspace. Those fast movers doing their stuff in the MOA will not even see you as you putt along at 120 knots on your way to the $100 hamburger.

This is SOP for any number of events.

    Valid point.

What are your thoughts on the no firearm zones?

And yes, there was a TFR during the superbowl.

CAP airplanes were launched from Ohio and Indy to penetrate the restricted airspace and to be intercepted to verify that the TFR could be enforced. The aircraft that penetrated were successfully intercepted and escorted by the armed military aircraft out of the area.

It is no secret. It is a matter of pride to the Indiana and Ohio Wings of the CAP that we were able to perform our mission and verify that the TFR was indeed able to be enforced.

Google Civil Air Patrol. I think the story is on the National headquarters website.

I can control what you bring on my property, why cant they? I may not like it so I won't go. If someone chooses to violate the rules, just be ready to suffer any consequences.

Being ATC in the Indiana Guard I am very aware of the TFR surrounding the Superbowl. I'm simply asking where Rambones post was in regards to this?

Someone mind sending me a PM when the air-to-air taser is perfected?:alcoholic:

It's going to be far more likely that things end up going wrong on the ground than in the air as far as rights violations. It's been declared for a long time that anything over 200ft AGL and you're in FAA owned airspace, and your presence is a privilege not a right, and for many years they've been willing to kill if you exercise that privilege when they say no. When AF1 was at KORD with Mr. Executive Orders outrank the rest of the government, there was a lady that didn't bring her radio, didn't check any TFRs or NOTAMs and flew right into restricted airspace, and got an F-16 escort out, after she figured out they weren't their just because they thought her Piper Cub was cute; so it's quite a while before they get to the point they actually will shoot.
