The expectation that people simply surrender their homes, businesses, or lives to rioting garbage when the police withdraw and refuse to protect them is ridiculous. This shouldn't even be a question of debate. When the police aren't helping, every person should have the right to do what they have to in order to protect them and theirs. If you decide your life is worth less than my property, well, that's your problem. Want looters to be treated compassionately and taken alive? Send in the cops.

It's a mistake to tolerate, normalize, and excuse looting. The response to looting should ALWAYS have been "Cops give you one warning and then shoot you, and small business owners aren't even required to warn". People see dead looters getting stacked on TV and they'll think twice about how bad they really want those Jordans.

Oh, I agree. I just worry about a business owner defending their property and ending up with a mob at their home, etc. We live in crazy times!

I would feel easier about ending a mob at my home as that is my castle and yes I will defend it regardless of the feels good dip weeds saying it is only property.
Would be a bit more difficult doing this at a business but if I or mine were threatened then all bets are off the table.

But I do truly understand your concerns.

A law to shoot anyone they “SUSPECT” of looting? And it doesn’t even have to be a business you have a contractual stake in? Uhhhhh, that seems problematic. But there is some segment of people that will be all for it.

Looting is problematic. Asking nice doesn't work so what is your solution?

Shooting somebody you “suspect” is looting and not having a stake in the property, doesn’t seem to be the right solution. But that’s just me.

If the property in question is America, then we all have a 'stake' in it and thus should support each other in defending it

If the rioters and looters were dealt with this wouldn’t even be a discussion. They haven’t been, so citizens have every right to protect each other’s livelihoods from being destroyed. Don’t like it, move to Portland where the police will escort you from store to store to loot.

People have been forced to stand by and watch their businesses and cities destroyed. It's time someone does something about it.:ingo:

Since you expanded the definition of “property,” to a subjective ideal. I also find the shooting of people who do not subscribe to your vision of America, as problematic.
