i am considering a Yaesu FT60 and beginning the studies for getting my license. it seems to cover all the bases. But so does the Icom ic-v86.

Unless I'm missing something, Go Yeasu. The Icom only appears to handle 2m. It doesnt also do 70cm as well like the Yeasu does.

I don't own an FT60R, but I just picked up an FT65R a couple of weeks back and a VX-6R last week. Both have been great so far but I'm still learning the VX-6R.

I chose the FT65 for the feature/price mix and like it for a nice, simple radio. I've only had it a short while, but like that one a lot. The VX-6R was bought as a more capable system and I like what I see so far, but the stock antenna is not pulling in as well as the NG771 I have on the FT65. I have a signal stick ordered for it.

I have never heard anything bad about the FT60. It seems to be a solid and respected choice.

The FT-60 is a solid radio. Have had one for many years, and just picked up a second a couple of months ago.
