I have an XD .40 Tactical I thought I would shoot today. I have a bunch of these reloads I inherited. After about magazine 8 it stuck open. It had ahold of an empty case but it was loose and easy to get out. It was stuck tight about halfway back. When I got home a few raps with a soft hammer and it sprung back home.

Now it won’t come back far enough to reset the trigger or turn the takedown lever. What do I need to do to get this slide back. I could take it in but I would really like to know how to solve the problem myself if it happens again.

I think I figured it out. I think I am very lucky I didn’t hurt myself. The round before didn’t fire. When I pulled the slide back it ejected an empty case. My mind immediately went to not enough gas AR-15 that doesn’t cycle a round. I didn’t think about squib. I should have been thinking squib since I was shooting reloads I didn’t reload. I think I fired a round with a bullet stuck in the barrel. I think the barrel is bulged. Glad I got to learn this lesson without a trip to the hospital. How do I get this apart now? Should I take out all of the pins? I took out the pin under the takedown lever and that didnt help so I put it back.
