You guys have given me some good info. Except dross. I think the holster I'm looking at is a Milt Sparks summer special IWB. Are those anygood. And what's a decent price to pay for one?

Sorry in a it late on this one but My Commander sized 1911 resides in either a Milt Sparks SS2 like you mentioned or a VM-2. Both holsters are extremely comfortable and secure, built like a brick outhouse, beautiful in detail and worth the wait time and money.

As for price, you can order from Sparks and expect up to a SIX month wait, try ordering from Brownells (currently back ordered)
MILT SPARKS HOLSTERS : SEMI-AUTO SUMMER SPECIAL 2 - World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools

Try Ebay if you want to avoid the wait but prices can get down right ridiculous!:twocents:

My full sized 1911 is carried in Condition One (round in the chamber, hammer cocked, manual safety activated) in a Wilson Combat "Tactical Assault" holster. My Colt Officer's Model is carried also in Condition One in a Galco "Avenger" holster.

The 1911 was designed to be carried in Condition One, however, the military carried it in Condition Three (magazine in pistol, no round in chamber, hammer forward) for administrative reasons. For my money, the 1911 in Condition One (and only) give me the largest "warm and fuzzy" feeling.

Thumbing the hammer back, etc. will probably not work well under stress, because when you need it, you will really need it, and not have to screw around with racking the slide, etc.

When I had my Kimber, I carried it condition 1 (cocked and locked) in an MTAC IWB.
Don't worry about the single action. The 1911 was designed to be completely safe carried in that manner. You've got the manual safety and the grip safety there (and a firing pin safety on Schwartz or Series 80 1911s), making it arguably "safer" than some of the modern designs with only a passive trigger safety.

I don't presently own a 1911, but I have in the past carried one in various holsters. I'm a fan of the Galco F.L.E.T.C.H. and the Jackass Rig. When I get around to getting my next 1911, I'll be carrying cocked & locked just like always.

When I carry my Kimber Custom TLE, I have it in a Galco SOB holster on my right side back. Most of the time there's a shirt over it. It's very comfortable sitting and driving that way too.

I saw a female security officer today doing a money pickup armed with what looked like a Kimber Eclipse. I noticed the single stack mags first and when the guard turned the other way I noticed the 1911 with it's hammer down. Also looked like a Mitch Rosen double mag carrier and belt holster with no retention.

I have a female friend that works for a Armor Company in NW Indiana. She prefers a 1911 but carries a Sig 228 because of the company policy of carrying all guns with the hammer down.

She has good taste in weapons. :rockwoot:
I figured it would be policy for hammer down carry.

Yes, she has very good taste in firearms. She is a very experienced shooter and has worked for the same company for a number of years. Makes some pretty good money as well. Not what I thought most those companies paid.

LOL....sorry I am not so disrespectful to my friends to give you pictures. You want play pictures go to the porn sites. I will tell her you think she is a guy if you do not get pictures. She will get a laugh about how big a loser you seem. She is on a couple dating sites and gets the same thing all the time. "Give me pictures or you are not real"...LOL You seem to be just another loser that has been on to many dating sites. I do not think it is appropriable for this site.

I was joking. You need to calm down and realize you have no idea who I am. Actually based on your assumption you could not be more wrong. I suggest you take it easy and realize not to take something so serious and calling someone out without thinking they may only be being light hearted.

I guess you don't have the ability to read between the lines, so let me save you the trouble "pics of its really a 400 lb guy" should have clued you into the true nature of my post. But I guess you were too busy trying to make an assumption of me instead of getting the joke. Lighten up there Francis

When hitting them with a 1911 once, they fall down, with a Glock you have to hit them multiple times to get them to fall down, Hence the larger mag and double action. Never thumb down a hammer on any weapon, I have accidently dischaarge weapons this way.
You learn a hard lesson very quickly. I was lucky and nobody was around to get hurt.
1911's are very safe, and have excellent knock down power. They are bigger and heavier. I recommend you find a carry weapon that works for you, no matter the caliber or type. Find a weapons that fits you and you feel comfortable to use in any situation. Just my 2 cents worth...

I was unsure about "cocked and locked" at first also. But I am very comfortable with it now and it is a good smooth action, the safety off, fire.

I feel better (safer) in the cocked and locked position that I did having a Glock on my side. I like having the manual safety lever much better.

I have a small Sig P238 I carry all over my body and I have a Springflield Ultra Carry 3.5" i plan to carry in a Don Hume Leather IWB holster. I just got this gun last week.

I also have a Colt Combat Commader, I feel is larger than I want to conceal carry.
