I started my boy with a Daisy BB gun at 6. He is 8 now. He cares for his own gun and keeps it in a corner of my closet. He goes out by himself now shooting it at cans. I will probably start him with a .22 at 10. I wanted him to learn all the safety and responsibilty of owning a firearm at an early age. He is a good shot and really enjoys himself.

I started my oldest son at 7 years old. He'd developed an interest in my guns at that time. I took him out and showed him the damage a 12ga would do to a target and to his shoulder. The recoil startled him but he wasn't deterred and has been shooting since.
Middle son was 12 and had taken one of my .45 out of my dresser to show his friends. It was definitely time to teach him about guns. He soon lost interest and is now a "hippie rock and roll freak", anti-gun, and has a danged Peace sign tattoo on his shoulder. I almost went to therapy on that one.
