The only junk mail I get on an annoying basis is for satellite TV, and from the AARP.

I already have a dish provider, and the AARP is a tool of the urban Democrats.

Proud NRA member here. Are they perfect? No. But without them, we would probably ALL be shooting single shot .22s with 36" barrels.

So you guys that won't join; more power to you. Just don't complain when the laws put into effect in places like New York, California, Virginia, etc. become the norm, not the exception.

The fact that they drive people like Pelosi, Obama, Schumer, Bloomberg, etc. nuts is worth the price of admission! I'm an NRA Golden Eagle member, Life GOA member and Gold ISRPA member and if anyone cares at all about protecting our Natural Right to keep and bear arms, they should donate to those that fight for these rights. Whether one agrees 100% with their tactics or not, the forces that want to take away our guns are
    Not.
    Going.
    To.
    Stop.
    EVER!
So, suck it up and get involved! :patriot:

Ok another thread to bash one of the only organizations between you and the Government eliminating your second amendment rights. Contact them or ignore the junk mail. Or drop your membership and hope others protect your rights and the right of your future generations to remain free from tyranny.

Started reading this thread from the start and was somewhat surprised when I saw some of the replies that were putting down the NRA. Reminds me of some little kid in the corner jumping up and down yelling "LOOK AT ME!", "LOOK AT ME!". Trying to draw attention away from the OP. If your getting too much email from the NRA, I'm sure there's an unsubscribe button at the bottom of the email. Usually is anyways. I've been an NRA member for a very long time. Pay by the year. Some years I donate extra, most years I don't. If you don't want to belong, so be it. It doesn't have to become a pissing contest.
This all boils down to one thing, the Second Amendment! If it wasn't for the Second Amendment we wouldn't be having these discussions.
If you don't belong to the NRA, that's your prerogative. They are the biggest organization fighting for our Second Amendment rights.

    I get bombarded too....

I probably get 2 or 3 solicitations per month from the NRA. ILA, NRA itself, PVF, etc. Sometimes I give them something, sometimes I don't. Worth it to keep my freedom.

Just opt out. Joining gives us the numbers we need to have our voice heard. The place to send money is GOA, SAF, NRA-ILA for instance.
even Dems like stats, so stay in, opt out of all mailings, and carry on.:)

I forgot one option I also like. When I get junk mail with prestamped envelopes, I stuff them with other junk crap and send those out. Like sending NRA stuff to the BOA enclosed envelope, etc. I mix and match very randomly, but don't send stuff back to the NRA.:):

To those who claim the NRA does nothing for the locals, it only makes it obvious you know little of what you write about.

Here the NRA helps with our local Jr. League programs, they help with National matches held locally, and they have given thousands to a local range I belong to for range improvements and maintenance.

The liberals hate the NRA. So the enemy of my enemy... Also, who does the media always refer to in the 2A debate? Are they perfect? No. Maybe its time to ask ourselves where we would be if the NRA did not exist.

Tell that to the folks in the socialist states of CA, CO, IL, NJ,NY,CT,MD,etc.

The NRA exists in those states too, so what is your point? The NRA supported the NFA, portions of the GCA of 68, and failed to deal with the Hughes Amendment at the time.

To the original point of the post, GOA does the same thing asking you to reup immediately. Yeah the NRA has the most influence blah blah blah, but if they did suddenly disappear, another group would fill the vacuum.

If this whole thingis about prinicipal, then then NRA hasn't measured up and has taken actions and spoken words against such principal. If this is about your sporting activity or some lame notion of having a gun for self defense, that is fine but don't pretend like the Constitution has anything to do with those things.

The NRA is made of individuals, but you would never hear a higher up in another firearms orgianization suggest that machine guns should be illegal, or suggesting magazines should be limited to 5 rounds, or opposing a bill which prohibits firearm records from falling under the preview of the PATRIOT act.

Individual members have done great things obviously as range operators and safety instructors, but that all would have been accomplished by those same people under a more principled organization.

The liberals hate the NRA. So the enemy of my enemy... Also, who does the media always refer to in the 2A debate? Are they perfect? No. Maybe its time to ask ourselves where we would be if the NRA did not exist.
That kind of thinking worked out real well with the United States supporting the mujahideen in Afghanistan didn't it?

As far as being the group that the media always refers to, you are wrong. GOA has been on the front page of NYT and the director Larry Pratt, has been all over the new circuit. The NRA may be number one, but one so what? Myspace was number one 7 years ago and look at the situation now. Just because you are on top doesn't make you good and doesn't mean you can't be replaced with something better overnight.

And you know the above as a fact? Prove it!

    Yes I do.

If you are looking to have a rational discussion about ideas, that is fine. If you want to resort to emoticons to try to paint a picture in which I don't know what I am speaking to, you are better off just stopping right now. Reality is quite different than whatever propaganda the NRA sends you in the mail and you see on Fox News.

Thanks and have a great day.

Again, I'm not trying to make the point that every person in the NRA is evil or anyting, but at best the organization is complacent and at worst has been partially responsible for many of the issues we have. To be fair though, both members of the NRA leadership a above are no longer in position, but the fact that they were tolerated at all speaks to a real problem of complacency.
