Has anyone else noticed a proliferation of owls in advertising lately? I count four current commercials that feature an owl. America's Best Eyeglasses, Trip Advisor, Xyxal (allergy medicine) and now WGU (Western Governors University). I wonder if they're all using the same advertising agency?

Yep. Owls are a symbol of wisdom. It's supposed to subconsciously make you feel like you should listen, or that you've made a good decision.

:): I know the symbology, I just don't ever remember so many owls simultaneously for totally different products. I remember smatterings of owls - the tootsie pop owl, White Owl cigars (although the owl wasn't the "spokesman" I don't believe).

Owl is WGU's school mascot. I'm a student there.

They're also sponsoring the screech owl at Holliday Park this year!

I think the other companies are a coincidence but all jumped on the boat after seeing a WGU commercial.

As someone that works in marketing I can say, there are a lot of lazy people in marketing.

That's what made me wonder if all these commercials are from the same ad company. "Hey, the owl worked for _______. Let's use an owl for _______!"

And BBI reminded me of another one... I think Floors To Your Home has one that's using the "Who? Floors to Your Home, that's who!" thing.
