Give me some ideas what to do with this Stevens 9478 20 gauge shotgun.
I won this on a GB auction. I only wanted it for parts, just the stock and barrel.

The parts took off will be replaced with the parts from the main gun.
However parts from the other gun has issues.
The stock from the is cut down 2 inches and the barrel is badly pitted, missing the front bead site and has a broken ejector.

I thought about cutting the barrel down to 18.5 inches, because the stock is already cut down. And then drilling the top of the barrel for a rail and a Vortex red dot.

I'm open to other ideas. It must be legal and I'm not spending much on this. Screenshot_20211103-005323_Chrome.jpg

Make a birds head grip out of it and then cut the barrel to 18.6". Add the red dot and you have a nice compact shotty.

I think your plan on shortening the barrel, with the already cut down stock would leave you with a usable shotgun. I have never been a fan of pistol grip shotguns, myself.

Add a recoil pad to lengthen the pull length.
Chop to 20 inch or 18.5 and see how she patterns. If good enough let it be. If to open add some choke tubes. Add a brass bead front sight.

Maybe pick up some black powder reloading shot shell equipment and primers and you can use it like a primitive

Don't forget that overall length has to be 26" to satisfy the alphabet bois. I do enjoy a short single! With a low value they're also fun to try cerakote/bluing/staining....
