DeerHunt what?
12 ga. Slugs, out of a single shot NEF rifled bbl. SB1.What caliber do y'all hunt deer with on public land? State and federal property
Typically I’m of the opinion that less .gov is better. But in this case I’ll defer to the game biologist, after all they are the ones in charge of all things wildlife. Why should public ground be differerent from private for caliber? Still wonder why we allow our state minders to regulate us on this?
.
Yeah, i got a sweet deal on a 30-06. And unfortunately I don't know anyone out here.12 gauge slugs also, out of a Mossberg 500, though I might be looking to expand to 10mm.
All my deer rifles are .308, so no go on public land.
Oddly enough, it's legal to hunt squirrel or rabbit, etc. on public ground with a 30-06 here, so maybe you can still get some use out of it!Yeah, i got a sweet deal on a 30-06. And unfortunately I don't know anyone out here.
So no private land hunting for me

Apparently, shooting up into a tree at a squirrel with a centerfire rifle makes the bullet turn into pixie dust before it falls to the ground. But shooting horizontally, or at a downward angle from a stand is just too dangerous if you're shooting at a deer.

Some here don’t remember when deer in Indiana were unknown, it’s because of the efforts of a few sportsman and work by wildlife professionals that brought the deer herd to where it is today. Just like the recent reintroduction of Turkey and river otter.
Without proper regulations we would be back to no deer or other wild critters of value just like it was in recent past history.
JMO.
Looks like I'm looking for a 28" barrel for my 870 to get me by...12 gauge slugs also, out of a Mossberg 500, though I might be looking to expand to 10mm.

No I don’t know the names of the game biologists of each of the different game districts in the state. The two I did know retired. Dean Zimmerman and Bob Porch. But they are listed along with they’er e mail address in the Ind. hunting and fishing guide. Each div. has different biologists waterfowl, fur bearers, fisheries, upland game, and so on. I’m not going to argue with you about my opinion on game or game laws. And if you want the info you can do your own research for such matters. How do these game biologists determine the deer are differerent on public ground than those on private ground? What about the crossover deer, that run both sides of the line?
Who are these game biologists? How'd they get the job with such influence? Got names, so we may reasearch their history, work record, politics?
