Maybe we get petition Obama to make Lugar the ambassador to, oh I don't know, Iceland or some out of the way country. Then maybe we can get a real leader elected in.

I agree with flooding their in-box with letters from the voters! Now is the time to begin this project and everyone that is of age to vote needs to send a letter. This includes husbands, wives and all in the home of age to vote!
Also I might add that Mr Buyer and some of his staff attended our Friends of NRA banquet here in Johnson County back in October, he was going to only stay long enough to lead us in the PLEDGE of ALIGENCE but there was a room full and good food so he stayed.
He actually got into the bidding when we had the live auction and helped make the night even more profittable for our group!

If only we could per TERM LIMITS to our fellow congressmen just like the Pres.
Say MAX of 2 terms for SENATORS and 5 MAX for reps. That gives SENATORSmax of12 years and repsmax of 10 years before somebody else gets in there.

    As I shared with you previously, I support the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens to possess firearms for sporting, collecting, and defensive purposes;

    Sincerely,

    Richard G. Lugar

You know, if he had signed the congressional Amicus Brief in DC v Heller, I might take him at his word.

    He didn't.

    He's a liar.

He wasn't called Tricky Dick. That was Nixon. Lugar used to be known as Liver lips. By the way, he is not for guns rights in any form and has voted against them and with the socialists on every occasion. He is one of the best reasons I can think of for term limits. Guys like him get in and we can never get them out.

Of note, though Sen. Lugar theoretically "signed" and sent that reply to me, I have little belief that he ever saw it. I'm guessing an intern or someone else in his office picked and chose certain canned sentences and stuck them together to make a letter to send me.
OK, he (someone) answered me today.
I'd asked the same question that I asked Mark Souder. Just the simple "yes" or "no" one...and I got 4 paragraphs of "I'm telling you crap I think you want to hear but I'm totally ignoring your question."
And by the way, yes BoR...your letter has canned sentences. Actually, canned paragraphs.
    Here's mine:

    Dear Friend:
Thank you for contacting me to share your support for gun ownership rights, especially in light of the recent presidential election. I appreciate having the benefit of your views on this important matter.

I support the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens to possess firearms for sporting, collecting, and defensive purposes; likewise, I support Indiana law related to the purchase and ownership of firearms. Indiana's Constitution provides both a liberty and a property right to bear firearms, which is stronger Second Amendment protection than the residents of many states enjoy. As legislative proposals that would affect these rights come before the Senate for consideration, I will examine each carefully to determine their possible effects on gun owners in Indiana and across the country.

I also believe law enforcement should endeavor to keep guns out of the hands of convicted felons. Since my days as Mayor of Indianapolis, I have favored background checks for the purchase of firearms as a tool to target criminal possession of guns. I have supported movement to an effective instant check system as rapidly as possible so that checks will not delay the vast majority of gun purchases that are legitimate.

I share the view of many gun owners that more effective enforcement of our current gun laws is likely to have a greater impact on preventing violence than additional gun laws.

Again, thank you for contacting me.

    Sincerely,

    Richard G. Lugar
    United States Senator

    Typical response from him.

As from someone who knows Sen. Lugar very well and has family members who work for him......

I wouldn't trust him on guns, he is from Indiana and claims to like guns but that is all. He wouldn't even have a conversation with me about guns and "assault weapons". I'd say he's pretty damn ANTI-2nd.

    May I make a suggestion?
When ever you "contact" one of your representatives, why don't you add their respective Oath of Office in your "signature" line?

(Let them know that you know that they are violating their Oath of Office every time they push/vote to strip your rights from you.)

    :dunno:

The fact that Luger is weak on gun rights does explain why Obama likes Luger so much. It also explains why the democrats did not even run a candidate against him in 06.
What is sad is that gun owners for the most part ignored the Libertarian candidate who ran against Luger and who was perfect (like all Libertarians) on the Second Amendment. As long as gun owners continue to swallow the hook, line and sinker of the NRA there is no reason for the GOP to give us good candidates.

God bless you Sir for this informative thread. I had no idea of Luger's stand on my beloved 2nd Amendment. I'll remember this at the next election.

I have no problem with the thoughts I expressed in my letter being used to contact another rep. I used only slightly different wording writing to Mr. Buyer and Sen. Bayh, addressing party differences and differences in voting records as well.

Of note, though Sen. Lugar theoretically "signed" and sent that reply to me, I have little belief that he ever saw it. I'm guessing an intern or someone else in his office picked and chose certain canned sentences and stuck them together to make a letter to send me. Of note, however, whoever actually composed the letter took the time to note that I'd mailed before, and that I'd done so on this subject. Either they get so few letters on the topic that mine were memorable.... or they have a database indicating what topics particular voters have written on. Somehow, I don't think my letters were that memorable.

    Blessings,
    B

Gotta love staffers - hey that might not be such a bad job :D
