I'm about to buy a gun from gunbroker and haven't bought a firearm online before. I know the guy I'm buying it from doesn't collect taxes, because he is in another state. Not sure if the FFL that i'm picking the gun up from collects taxes, or if this is one of those things that is supposed to be reported when people do their taxes.

By law you have to report it under the use tax portion.
    This ^^^

Legally, you're supposed to report all of your online or out-of-state purchases and pay the use-tax.

I don't believe the transferring dealer is supposed to collect sales tax at all because he is providing a service, not a good...

Be sure to ask your FFL first. Some DO attempt to "collect" the sales tax... but they're either trying to rip off an ignorant customer or are ignorant themselves.

If your FFL wants tax money from you... run. Find an honest and knowledgeable dealer.
