I'm thinking about going in and filling a cart or two, taking them to the register, letting them ring it all up, then ask for a manager and ask what the policy is. When he tells me, just say "oh, I'm sorry I guess I won't be making a purchase here today after all" and leave.
What happens if he tells you that you can carry? Are you going to buy those 2 carts full of toys? :):

So since they want "to create only the safest shopping environment" I guess the next thing they will do is hire security and start strict ID protocols. I mean, its so much more likely that someone will kidnap a child from the Toys R Us than it is that my pistol will somehow come loose from my double retention holster, overcome its internal safety, and discharge. If I can't have my gun then the least they can do is provide me and my family with the equivalent protection or better. Why do they want a parking lot full of cars with unattended guns in them instead?

That's not what they're afraid of. They're afraid of guns that go off by themselves. Yes, it's irrational, but it is what it is. They're afraid that someone's gun is going to fall out of its holster or something, it'll go off, and some kid is gonna get hurt.
    .

Well that did just happen, but I don't think too many people carry Norinco type 54s anymore.

Like somebody earlier said, its an irrational fear that cannot be swayed by mere logic or statistics.

Besides which, Walmart is gun friendly AND their toys are cheaper anyway. :p

I see that this is old news but I am new to Concealed Carry and I just noticed the sign on the door the other day. Is this store policy equivalent to "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service"? Can you be arrested for breaking the rules or just escorted out of the store? Has this happened to anyone?

I CC there all the time. It is just their policy and carries no weight of law.

They may ask you to leave if they know you are carrying. If they do, you must leave or you can be charged with trespassing.

Just cover it up and you should be fine.

How many times has a "No firearms Allowed" sign at the door stopped you from entering unless you were being electronically screened? Just out of curiosity. Might make an interesting poll question.

They say they value the safety and security of their customers... yet they only allow bad guys to carry in their stores.

    A bit contradictive.

These people have their heads so far up their "politically correct" asses, they have no idea what they stand for and what they're saying.

    Never stops me!
Just like at the airport.... So many people are under the impression that you can not carry in the airport, the law only covers "secured areas", only areas that you must go through security screening.

Concealed means concealed. On the TRUS side, tho, they've had a number of shootings there over the years, by insane shoppers on Black Fridays. I could see where they'd be gun shy.
How many of those shootings were by law abiding citizens with a ltch? This is not understandable to be gun shy. Criminals will carry and shoot when they choose. If they are that concerned over past shootings, why are there no police officers posted at their stores?

Those insane people are still going to be carrying in there and shoot just as if there was not a sign on the door.

my question is - can they do that?

They can just like you can put a "no gun" sign in your own house.
But that's not a law and it's not illegal to carry there.
I just dont pay attention to signs.I know where I can and cannot carry according to the law, not according to some people's signs.

You can carry there but you would have to leave if they ask you.
That is of course if you open carry. ;)
