Oooh, erector sets. By the time I was old enough to use them, they were already starting to make them with plastic in them, instead of the classic metal "Sharp edges? Bah, that's not a safety hazard, that's there to build character!" version. Still fun, but I tended more toward Lego - I had a LOT of legos. Heck, I still have legos :)

The wife and I were laughing about this the other day...

No booster seats, lap belts, no helmets, cooking with lard and REAL butter, belts/paddles/yardsticks (not meter sticks), riding in truck beds, playing in the street AFTER DARK, BB gun wars (you'll put an eye out!), etc...

It is a wonder we all survived!

My 8th grade band teacher had a canoe paddle hanging in his office. It had been used a few times....

    Where's the bacon?
What year (actual calendar year) was your last PADDLING in school? Mine was like 1974 or 1975. I remember 1975 I sliced my arm open and the principal said he hoped every stitch hurt.

So, which generation or what year, was the last to get paddled in school? (and HARD with a freaking PADDLE!!!!!)
1978. And it was worth every lick I got. Little red-headed *ahem* male puppy kept picking and picking until I had enough. I don't think he ever had a cleaner clock than he had that day. :bat: :D

And for those reminiscing and talking about "the old days" :lmfao: :

Make sure you go back and look at the older lists, too.

Don't forget Hot Wheels tracks! Some of the lessons were hard ones. One I learned: When Mommy paddles you with a paddle ball paddle and it breaks, don't laugh... she'll break out the Hot Wheels tracks!!! Unlike the paddle ball paddle, those sucker drive a point home! I was a much better behaved child from that point on.

As and old fart, I'll take a stand and defend the under 30 crowd.

They stepped up and did a GREAT job in the Gulf wars... Outstanding!!!

The ones I know thru my daughter, are hard working, successful, friendly.

My 30 something neighbors are helpful when I'm ill and they've have become close friends.

I think they are more realistic than the Hippies that I grew up with and now run our government.

O.K.....maybe they can work a little more on their musical tastes, but overall, I think they have their priorities straight and have learned from some of our mistakes.;)

That brought back a lot of memories. And a few laughs. The TV back in the OLD days was black and white, and we only had 6or 7 channels - depending on the weather. The youngest child was our remote - "you go change the channel."
And there were no mini vans. Dad crammed everyone in the back of the station wagon and away we went.
    Anyone remember outdoor theaters?

You can drive up to Monticello or Plymouth and still watch a movie at the drive in! Took my kids when they were younger and they loved it.
Still like to go with the wife every once in a while and "snuggle" while watching.

And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen... forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!
    ROFL... That is hilarious.

I know my Mom always told me if I got whipped at school I would get another one when I got home. Now parents would sue, call the police...

The drive-in just north of Wabash is still in business. A friend of mine and my daughter go there a lot. They even take their own popcorn in a brown paper grocery bag....LOL

Last time we wnt to the drive-in...we threw some T-Bones, cheesy bacon potatoes and corn on the cob on the BBQ and when it was all done...put it in the trunk and drove there. Best dang Drive-in meal I've EVER had.

Last paddling in school was in 1972 when I was 10yo. I got the whacks for not finishing my homework. That same teacher used to play his banjo and guitar and sing to us in the mornings. After that he would read bible stories to us.

I used to get 0.25 a week allowances but that stopped when I started working 2 or 3 hours an evening, seven days a week helping our neighbor milk cows. Got paid a buck a week. I was 11yo then.
