A field test in Columbia, S.C., is scheduled to begin this spring.

The purpose of the CIN, according to the FCC, is to ferret out information from television and radio broadcasters about "the process by which stories are selected" and how often stations cover "critical information needs," along with "perceived station bias" and "perceived responsiveness to underserved populations."

the newsrooms of Columbia should direct the FCC to the coast. Should be plenty of sand to pound there.

Isnt the first amendment the baby of the left, something that they have always held as untouchable? Interesting that Obama has moved against this on as well, I wonder how long before his supporters start dropping like flys becasue of this move...

The FCC doesn't have any real jurisdiction over newspapers in the print medium, but most of them have a significant web presence that is delivered through FCC regulated phone, cable, and internet providers.

Even though Fox News doesn't necessarily have an FCC license to protect, all of it's affiliate stations do.

Our illustrious leadership has been trying unsuccessfully to level the playing field in talk-radio for years. Instead of letting the market forces determine the success of a 'product', the FCC will now come in and tell stations that their news is 'political in nature' and that they have to make equal time for the opposing viewpoint. It becomes irrelevant that advertisers may not support half the programming, or the listeners change the station, they get their program on the air.

It's just another slap at freedom. Don't have to build a sellable product, just have the government force people to 'buy it'...

I'll bet PBS is exempt from all this!
