Headed out to Proteq for a bit this morning and got back and grabbed some lunch. Messed with some stuff around here (optic screw was wanting to back out a little on my Echelon so cleaned the screw and added some more loctite, etc. Put a strike industries angled mlok qd socket on my freedom ordnance pdw. Got it for my scorpion but thinking I'll go a different route there) then watched the Eclipse on the back deck. Drop in temps was pretty noticeable during the Eclipse.

In reading proteq's website I need to try and checkout the steel valley range, next time I'm out there. I've tended to stay on the cowboy steel range.

"Steel Valley Range (SVR) now has 7 of the 8 Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA) target arrays permanently installed.
You now have a dedicated SCSA practice range open 365 days a year where you can hone your skills between match competitions.
Next year all 7 stages will have a permanent cover over each firing line. Practice is now possible 7 days a week for those authorized to use this valley.
Starting 1/1/24 membership to this valley will be $70 per year."

Not sure if that was around last year when I got my membership.
It was there, and the price was a bit lower. I was going to add the SVR to my membership when I renew this year.

Having never phototgraphed an eclipse before, I had no idea for camera settting .....so I shot in Manual, and flew by the seat of my pants !
Overall,I'm happy, although like anything, if I did it tomorrow it would be better.

Biggest regret is going with my 200mm lens, intead of the 400mm. But, the camera has many, many pixels, and crops fairly well.

(First three are when totallity was achieved ..... all different photos)

    Then .... Diamond RING !!!

Before bursting, and then fading quickly .....

Very nice. I didn't get anything, mostly because I didn't know what I was doing.

    .
Great pictures MM. Eclipse was interesting, the gardener and I just either set and talked or walked around the house. I was expecting it to be darker, critters in the woods seemed unimpressed though. It's interesting to me even with the partials how the lower frequency light drains away first and the outside looks like it's lit with CWF.

Is it the area past the MPR where they run the matches? Yeah, I saw it was like $40 when added to a membership previously. Guess I didn't read enough before, I had assumed that was reserved for matches.

Sounds like they were adding some cover, etc to it.

If its set up for steel challenges I'd like to check it out. Would be cool to get a few folks together and run it a bit.

So got some shooting in today, had Jersey Mike's for lunch, saw an eclipse, and changed the oil in my truck this evening.

    Fairly productive day.

Going to try and get some fishing in tomorrow, get the truck washed, maybe a costco trip and lunch with the wife.

That light was literally changing every second. It made it hard to keep up (color temp, etc.).

You know it ! It's been harder for me to hike in the woods these days (uneven ground).
Are you due for a re-exam from the doctor ?
Had a shot in Feb, but it didn't seem to provide alot of relief. Had MRI which mostly showed same as my last one from last year (stenosis, disc degeneration, etc) started taking nerve pain meds again (had stopped previously as I had been operating OK without them after doing some PT last year), and pretty much limiting any lifting (lightened up my tackle box, etc) especially overhead lifting.

Hoping it continues to be manageable and I need to keep up activity (I'm known to have problems doing that in the winter) but be careful about too much. It hurts but I'm at least functional.

Yup, it's that 'lift' that you want to handle yourself, but remember ..... it only takes one drop to make the glass overflow (Exact words from my surgeon)
