    That looks well traveled!

It is. To Britain for WW1 in 1915, then back to the states. In the 30s it went to Dan King's out in California for install of their proprietary sights and hammer. The caliber was probably changed then to 45 Colt, barrel cut, and modern cylinder latch installed along with an action job. Where it went past there is a guess, but Kings built it into a very large bore snub gun for somebody. Maybe the customer was looking for something like the Colt Fitz special which was being made at the same time.

It would be a old relation to the idea behind MM's giant S&W. ;)

After a lot of research I finally made a decision and ordered a new vise for the mill. I went with a Glacern GPV-412. It was $579 and should be quite an improvement over my $60 vise I've been using for the past year. Along with the upgraded Mitutoyo dial test indicator I just got, the quality of my work will improve.

Sadly it looks like a kids vise compared to others. It's a 4" wide jaw model and weighs 40lbs. The 6" jaw model jumps to 81lbs.

Another Example. I was looking into the Kurt DX4 vise with 4" wide jaws, that weighs 30lbs. In the photo below, the DX4 is on the left, with the DX6 on the right and the DX8 in the middle. The DX8 weighs 175lbs.....

Don't know anything about machining tools. Looks like a solid piece no doubt.

    .
Finishing off a bottle of wine I opened earlier in the week, giving up on a Winchester 1886, people are paying crazy money for Winchesters these days.

Well if your 4” weighs 10 pounds more than the Kurt, that says something about the quality. Kind of the gold standard.
