Marathon/Speedway buying up the competition. The one in Mooresville is open and the clerk said that Marathon bought 200 of the 250 stations. Marathon sets the price and the others jump to the music :(

Would explain why the new Marathon is right down the street from the old Swifty on the east side.

Marathon does not own any gas stations. They are all privately owned by individuals or organizations. Speedway is a sister company of Marathon. Speedway just bought up all the Hess stations up and down the east coast. Speedway is now the second largest C-Store chain in the US. As for gas prices being cheaper in other states, you have to remember that they don't have the state fuel taxes like we do in indiana.

Remember "price wars", when gas stations were competing to see how low they could set the prices? Now it seems to be in reverse. If one station raises their price, all the other stations raise theirs too. :(
