Shooting in Elwood - gun lighter?

Not sure which forum to add this in, but saw this and wanted to share.

Elwood Police Shooting

Suspect shot, wounded by Elwood police officer

Police were investigating a reported domestic disturbance when the suspect fled. He was later shot after allegedly refusing to drop a weapon.

Judging from the picture of the firearm, it almost looks like it says "beretta" on the slide, but I've never seen anything like this before. Which led me to the question... is this a real gun? Or is it a bbgun? I've also seem some lighters look like this too. So is it a lighter?

Just saw a piece on WTHR and they confirmed that it was indeed a lighter.
