Shipping to son in In

I, unfortunately, live on the wrong coast. I want to ship a long gun to my son in Indiana. Does it have to go through an 01FFL or can it be shipped directly to him?

Must go through an FFL if you are shipping. I THINK some states we are allowed to purchase a gun in person and bring it home, but if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will set me straight soon.

Afterthought: There could be an exception if it is a black powder weapon.
