I see 12yo girls concerned they're pregnant. Usually the sexually active 14yo kids have parents who are aware of their behavior and say "well, what can you do". So sad.

At ages 12 or 14? If you haven't laid a base of morality in this area by then, it's hard to be effective starting that late.

We let both of my girls know that this was unacceptable and that there would be consequences...

I thought 16 was age of consent in Indiana for sex
The SART based out of Ft. Wayne said that 14 is the age of consent. We also have Romeo and Juliet laws in place...so a potential 21 year old could have relations with a 17 year old and potentially avoid charges.

Child Molestation, Sexual misconduct with a child, child seduction, and child enticement are our laws. Technically speaking, we do not have a statutory rape charge.

Everyone wants to say that the guy could have hooked up with his 16 year old girlfriend and got busted when he was 18, Indiana IC doesn't really allow that charge unless there is more than 7 years difference in age.

Here's my only problem. You're 17 and your girlfriend is 15. Being redblooded American teenagers, you go at it like monkeys almost every day. Ring any bells?
You turn 18, and for whatever reason your girlfriend's parents report you as having improper relations with their daughter.
Guess what? You're found guilty, and the judge says you have to register for the rest of your days.
Sound good? It happens all the time. Because you were having sex with your girlfriend one day as a 17 year old, and the next day as an 18 year old, you're now in the same category in the eyes of the law as a person who did despicable things to children.
    Not fair? Too bad.

A friend in the legal profession told me that many states have some kind of "Romeo and Juilet" understanding in the courts to try to differentiate between young foolish lovers and perverts. I do not know if it is a statute or a plea deal. Hopefully one of the legal council will weigh in.

This is also my experience. I have done family counseling where a 14-15 year old boy has 2 or 3 "baby moma" also living on the welfare system. This was not an isolated incident. It was way more common that we would like to believe. Clueless kids, raised buy clueless "adults" making more babies. And none of the affected parties think anything is wrong.

A girl I went to school with got pregnant at 12 gave birth at 13. Last I knew she had 4 kids at 20 years old. The family was really a bunch of losers/weird/trash. They let her 27 year old BF move in with them. He had a job so...

well he was convicted of child molesting ic 35-42-4-3 when he was 32y/o and served 12 out of a 15 year sentence and is listed as a "sexually violent predator". 14 or under and 32 doesn't fall into the Romeo and Juliet clause in any civilized community. Even if he is just a driver i do not feel comfortable with him being around my relative that uses that ambulance service to get to and from appointments which is why they will no longer be using them.

Again I think he should be able to work and make a living just not in that field.

If anyone doesn't feel like looking up the ic here it is:
A person who, with a child under fourteen (14) years of age, knowingly or intentionally performs or submits to sexual intercourse or other sexual conduct (as defined in IC 35-31.5-2-221.5) commits child molesting, a Level 3 felony.

Sidenote: A girl in my 4th grade class got pregnant and had a daughter. Last i heard she has had several kids with custody of none.

she may have been held back so i assume she was 11 or 12

Still, dayum. I went to a podunk country high school....but at least the earliest prego scenario I remember was a girl waited until freshman year. She dropped out soon after that. Then the next one waited until junior year. And of course her locker was right next to mine. Always waited to get to my locker before or after her cause she looked like she could pop at any time

So, back to the original post - I would much rather have someone on the list in that ambulance than someone engaging in the "victimless crimes" and looking for ways to score there next high (or being high).

Medicare/Medicaid won't pay for services rendered from a person on an offender registry. That's the only thing that I know that prohibits them from being hired. In our facility, it could potentially cause issues with all federal moneys, so we don't do it.

Would it matter if they were only a driver?

Sex offender and domestic convictions prohibit certification. In other words sex offenses or domestic violence = no cert = no job.

Do you need anything more than a chauffeurs license to drive an ambulance?

Are you sure he is not just a driver? Some ambulance services use just a driver and a EMT for the shuttle service.

That's my guess. Cheaper to have a driver and a EMT rather than 2 EMTs especially if all you do is transport service.

It seems that too many people are getting caught in this dragnet - one's that aren't any real threat to anyone.

A 20 year old boy that receives explicit photos from his 16 year old girlfriend doesn't belong on that list; sure it's wrong, but he's no more of a threat than anyone else hanging around at the park.

Heck some 15-16 yr old kids are facing possible felony charges in iirc MI for producing/distributing/possessing child porn, the girl for taking selfies, one of the boys for distributing/possessing, and a couple of other boys for possessing. And I've heard of it before.

Indiana has a "romeo and juliette" law now, it was passed a few years ago.

In IN the age of consent is generally 16, although it can be as low as 14 or as high as 18. We do have a "romeo and juliette law" which comes into play if they are in an ongoing relationship (not including family relationships) if there is no more than a 4 yr (not 7) age difference. I believe that was passed 4-5 yrs ago. So yes there can/are be people on the list that would not be placed there now. A few years ago my mom heard one of her neighbors was on the list. I checked and yes he was. I did some further checking and it was a situation like being discussed. He was dating a girl, she was 15 he just turned 18 and she got pregnant. Parents were pissed and demanded that they press charges. At the time I checked into it he had been married to her for around 10 yrs and had another kid or two by her.

A 17yr old with a 18yr old can be illegal in IN though, if the 18 yr old is in a "professional relationship" with the 17yr old. So yes a 18 yr old can hook up with his 16 yr old girlfriend and be prosecuted, if they both work at the same fast food place and he is her manager. The charge would be Child seduction under IC 35-42-4-7.

well he was convicted of child molesting ic 35-42-4-3 when he was 32y/o and served 12 out of a 15 year sentence and is listed as a "sexually violent predator". 14 or under and 32 doesn't fall into the Romeo and Juliet clause in any civilized community. Anyone convicted under that statute is required to register as a "sexually violent predator", it doesn't mean it was forced/drug/alcohol/etc related. And that is up to you and your relatives. But I do know a guy who could have been prosecuted under that code. He was iirc mid to late 20s met a girl and she ended up going home with him and spending the night, then a couple more days. She went to the store one day and there was a knock on his door. He answered it and there was an older lady standing there asking if her daughter was there. He asked who her daughter is and she told him, he said she would be back in a couple if she wanted to wait. She said that's okay, just send her home when she gets back she's 13. Needless to say he damn near had a heart attack. Turns out the girl had done the same thing before.

Now if he had been prosecuted and found guilty, he would have had to register the same as the guy you are talking about. But here is the rest of the story, he met her in a bar and she had a fake ID. He thought she wasn't 21 but figured 19-20 or so. So he might have been found not guilty under the defense of a "reasonable belief that the child was 16 or older"
