I have been really jonesing for a Professional model from Springfield Armory.
They are making them in 9mm now as well as 45, railed or clean.
I probably won’t carry it, but plan to shoot the snot out of it and keep it next to the bed.

I’m likely to go with the rail for a light.

What do you think? Worth it?
    9mm or 45?

I have been drooling over the railed .45 professionals for many years. Haven't owned one yet. I'm here to provide positive peer pressure. Good luck with the purchase!

If the Mouse were here, I am sure he would say 45

If that is what you want it’s a great choi. As far as the price here’s the deal. It is put together better than a normal production 1911. And there is no MIM parts. Some MIM are good but the ones that take a beating not so much (10-8 performance is a great video on it)

As far as the LPI on the front strap it will eat your hands as it was designed to be used with gloves so that would be my only negative on the Professional model.

I owned a .45 non-railed recently but sold it pretty quickly. Overall it was a nice gun and you can tell it came out of the custom shop as it had all the little details you'd expect from a custom gun, all the edges nicely beveled, magwell actually blended to frame etc. I had been aware of the hype and mystique for a long time so when the opportunity came to get one for 2450.00 I tried it out. It was a bit of a let down though, trigger wasn't all that but it shot just fine but just didn't really excite me that much. I also forgot about shooting a 1911 with 20lpi checkering. I sold it easily for what I paid for it and probably could have put it on GB and made a ton. I would say as a 2-2200.00 gun it's a good value but not at what they are being sold for now. Rumor has it they haven't actually made any of these in a couple years and the prices are reflecting that. It's definitely not a 4K gun like those on GB are asking. If you just want a nice 1911 get a used Wilson.

Maybe it's my working man's hands, but the 20 LPI on the front strap of my TRP is one of my favorite features of that 1911.
No discomfort for me personally after long range sessions.
It seems to "grip back". I prefer it much more to the 25LPI on my others.
But I totally agree to what drillsgt said, there are better options for the (current) price.

I've been watching this thread. OP, I totally understand that your mind is focused on the SA. Been there many times myself, and my brain becomes a one-track mind for sure. Not to totally throw a wrench into your mental mix, but have you thought about a Dan Wesson Specialist? I'm over the moon with mine, it's everything I hoped it would be and more. You have the option of Commander or Gov't lengths, and with the proprietary Duty finish, either is within your price range. Both options are railed, and 25 LPI won't cheese grate your hands. And if it's a concern, no MIM parts.

I'm of course biased as a DW fan, but I can't imagine the DW Specialist not being everything you want the SA Custom to be. Fit and finish on mine is absolutely spectacular. Mine is the bead-blasted finish unlike the Duty pics I'm posting below, but still... absolutely NO buyer's remorse.

I think it depends on what you want it for, in terms of true intended use. I have one in 9mm and absolutely love it. I use it for shooting single stack in USPSA. Best current factory custom gun for that use IMO. Put together very well. Truly a custom fabricated gun; not a high volume build with just a "custom shop" label. Tolerances are awesome. Accuracy is impressive. It is a smooth gun with a very nice trigger. The checkering is aggressive but I really like that feature. I shoot frequently so it does not hurt or tear up my hands. For home defense and range plinking there are certainly several comparable guns out there with higher capacity (2011s). SA Custom shop was shut down for most of the COVID timeframe and I believe has recently or is opening back up soon. I would buy my again in a heartbeat for its intended purpose.

I almost got one myself but decided on a Staccato P since it was going to see some heavy use.

You could go be a professional model for them. They start you out as a target model. In front of the camera, as it were.
    Wait for the flash!
