Awesome looking firearm, and sure you will get your enjoyment from owning it. I had an early model in 80's also. No issues and carried during a stint of Armed Security. Again, congrats!

You usually can't go wrong with the 686, pretty solid guns.

Thanks, final step will be to machine off that front sight and put in a black dovetail sight.

I would like to see the pics of the sight if you get it done. I have a Mod 13 I would love to get a front sight put on. It's not a big ramp like yours, but I've seen a small dot put on them.

With the fixed sight revolvers it's the same concept, dovetail fronts are used a lot, you see them often on the 3 inchers.

Yep, mine is a 3". Would be interested in seeing the work of someone fairly local if you get it done.
