EVERYTHING is a war between offense and defense.
    EVERYTHING.

Something is countered, then a counter to that is developed.
    Then the counter is countered.
    And so on
    And so on.

Every once in a while, something changes the paradigm.
Such as the death of the battleship.
And that was started by Diesel Subs, and finished by Nuke Subs.
    With an assist by carriers.
I have to agree. Every video I've seen of attack and transport helicopters being shot down has them flying low-level, usually 100-feet plus above the terrain - which as, if I remember my last threat briefing over 20 years ago - is/was Soviet doctrine. American helicopter doctrine would have helicopters using terrain to mask them from the enemy, as well as using electronic counter-measures. Helicopters ( and their vertical lift replacements) and armored vehicles are going to remain relevant as long as they keep developing tactics and countermeasures to anti-air/armor technology.

Right now, for reasons unknown, but arguable, the Russians are fighting stupidly with both their armor and aviation assets.

It has surprised me that the Russians did so poorly. They over ran Army Group Center in 1944 in a few weeks with much slower armor and air assets, but they clearly knew how to coordinate infantry, artillery, armor and air 80 years ago. For armed forces that lived, ate, and breathed tank doctrine it seems they have forgotten much.

Frunze academy must be teaching some sort of woke tank doctrine these days.

Don’t let the locals give you food…

Unless you actually liberated their country from a Nazi occupation.

    Another example, codes and encryption.
    There were "unbreakable" codes/encryption.
    Then, they were broken.
    Then different codes/encryption came up.
    then, they were broken.

It's a constant war back and forth.

That's why I get mad when people want to circumvent things like "We MUST make people type in their password on their phone".
(I know, slightly different subject. But I'm on a roll... )
For 2 hundred years, law enforcement agencies had to deal with the 4th/5th amendment.
But NOW. Yes NOW we NEED this.

Another example more on "target" for the thread..
Submarines were actually in danger of becoming obsolete by the end of WWII.
    Something people can't imagine.
    But it was happening.
And then along comes Rickover and his crazy squirrels running in a wheel to power subs in a new way, and they were not only no longer obsolete, but they almost made the entire surface fleet obsolete.
Then, changes were made to the surface fleet.
    Etc.

I never thought of NR as breeding "crazy squirrels running in a wheel", but . . . :D

Squirrels, atoms. Both can get out of control pretty quick in a sealed can.

When the coners (non-nukes, people in the "cone" of the sub) came aft for sub quals (dolphins) we told them the whole nuclear program was just a smoke screen to cover our secret powerful squirrels or hamsters.
It was simpler to explain. And if they were smart, they'd figure out the lie in a minute or so.
