    Yeah, title says it all.

    LOL

4 screws out w zero issue. Brass punch on rib edge lightly tapped, walked quarter rib off dowels.
One dowel (front) stayed in the rib.

The rear one, aint comin out. Felt top edge of dowel and yeah, it's flared, where they drove it in the rib at factory.
So I cleaned that lip off.

Still cant get EGW base over it without force. Could open dowel hole on base.
Its a .22-250, so there's no need for any dowels.

But I could add the front dowel back, since it goes in and out without issue. 4 screws and 1 dowel. Just don't want one left stuck.

Checked online, one known #1 smith says he drill and taps em, makes a little slide hammer to get em out.

    Yeeesh.

The EGW base lip might touch front edge of receiver. Aluminum, easy enough to clearance.
Not as pretty as quarter rib, but allows use of Burris Signature Zee rings.
Wont scratch up a nice Leupold varmint scope with those.
Plus none of the worry about scope tube length and needing two offset rings (which looks even more hideous).

Had a 3.5-10X AO on it and it was as far back in reg rings as it could go. Objective tube flare was at front edge of ring, and I used an offset at rear to better span the scope (not have turret jammed to front of rear ring and have that long rear hangover.

Might just run this old rig over to Penrod and have him yank the dowel.
Needs bbl inspected anyway. My dad's old rifle, dunno how throat is.
Might not be worth messing with (the dowel), maybe needs a new bbl.

Im done messin with it for the night LOL.

Removed all the old grease that solidified under rib, CLP or TriFlow..........hate the smell of that crap.

The Burris Signature Zee's (medium) I love, but since this EGW rib is taller, sits the scope too high for my liking.

So ordered a set of reg Zee low gloss.

    Should be here Friday.
Already cut the base shorter (removed last 2 slots at rear ). Since rear scope ring goes to that slot it won't have a "tail" sticking out over loading area.
Looks like I need to remove 3 or 4 of the Pic rail blocks off the top, at the front.
Then maybe scallop the front a little for looks.
This using all 4 screws and both dowels.

If I don't like it after that, then reprofile front and go 3 screws and 2 dowels.

Depends on what scope I'll run.
Since the lines of the rifle are pretty, really cant go w a 30mm tubed rig.
    Ideally a Leupold gloss 12x, or a 6.5-20X.
But prices on them are getting stoopid.

Def be buying a last run used model.

BTW, I cleaned up the top edge of the rear dowel and got the base to go on.
    Dowel was not removed LOL

I stole the rings I had on dads rig and put em on my 1A.
Nobody has reg 4B rings for Ruger in stock (gloss medium).
Even Ruger is out of stock.
So Zee rings and EGW back in the plan LOL
Hopefully get the 1A zeroed next week.
    Trying a 2.5X FX2 on it.
If not enough mag, slap it on the ol lady's 10/22
