No, not enough penetration. .38 special shot shells with #8 shot or the custom .45 ACP shotshells I make from .308 rifle brass that have a 1/2 inch .410 wad. I have shot clay pigeons with those.
I shot a couple of clays with my Taurus Judge.
Surprised myself for about 4-5 shots... then I couldn't hit s***

I reload my own shotshells for 38 special, and 44mag.
I use #5 shot, weigh the plastic capsule after I fill it then find a load for that weight in the manual.
The 44mag I use 44 special load data.
I load them to mid velocity for both calibers.
They kill rats, chipmunks, and snakes at 5yds easily.

Thanks for the insight. If they take out mice, why not snake?

I do have some in .38, but the allure of the micro NAA is very appealing.

I’d love to have some of your custom .45. Will those cycle in an auto pistol? I’m guessing that’s what you are running them in. If so, please hit me with an email as I’d love to buy some of them from you.

I would say that is a generalization for all shotgun shells as far as max trajectory and shot rain, they prob just copied it over from others to be safe.

Here is how the .45 acp shotshells are made.

Time consuming to create the brass. Got the recipe from an old NRA technical paper. The guy that came up with them developed these to cycle in a 1911 and used them on rattlers one Texas.

Can this be done for 9mm or 45 Colt?
This recipe is specific because it uses a cut down .410 wad as a shot cup to improve patterning. Not sure how to duplicate that for a 9mm. The Speer shot capsules are available for .38 and .44. They also used to make a 9mm version with those blue plastic shot capsules. All development would start with a rifle brass of the correct diameter. Making the .45 version requires .45 ACP case length die, .45 ACP sizing die, .41 magnum sizing die and .38 cal sizing die.

My only question, are we all talking about the same thing? Bird shot is sands of grain type, shot shells are 1/4-1/2 the size of a regular BB. Bird shot, no, shot shell, yeah all it takes is one pellet to knock someone's eye out way down range.

Sorry, not an ammo manufacturer so my loads are only for me to use.
