Posted this on THR as well, but wanted to give a shout out to my fellow Hoosiers:

I thought this might be a good place to start on my search; I got this idea on another forum, and it really struck me as a great idea. I'm a hunter education instructor in Indiana, and am looking for various dummy rounds to use in the ammunition section of the class. These would obviously need to be empty cases (no primer or powder) with a bullet seated. I'm looking for a couple of each of various calibers to show the wide range available, as well as the similarities of some calibers to others.

The following calibers, legal in Indiana for hunting (I would prefer NON FMJ bullets in these to keep them as legal examples):
    .357 Magnum
    .41 Magnum
    .44 Magnum
    .44 Special
    .44-40 Winchester
    .45 Colt
    .45 Long Colt
    .45 Winchester Magnum
    .454 Casull
    .458 SOCOM
    .480 Ruger
    .475 Linebaugh
    .50 Action Express
    .500 S&W

The following examples could contain any type of bullet, as the caliber itself is not legal for hunting in Indiana:
    .35 Remington
    .357 Herrett
    38 Special
    38 Smith and Wesson
    38 Colt New Police
    38/200
    38 Long Colt
    38 Super
    38 ACP
    38 Colt Auto
    45 ACP
    45 Automatic
    25/20
    32/20
    30 carbine
    .30-30 Winchester
    .444 Marlin
    .45-70 Govt.

Would also appreciate ANY caliber you can offer, even if it's not on the above list. I'd also like to find some shotgun sabot/slug shells (10,12,16,20, and .410) for the same purpose, but not sure of the possibilities of making them look unfired while at the same time being empty.

So, is anyone willing to help out? If you are able to, shoot me a PM or reply here.

If you are a hunter ed instructor in the state of Indiana, you are aware this statement is not true. 35 Remington, 357 Herrett, 30-30, 444, and 45-70 are perfectly legal for deer hunting, varmint hunting and others, as long as they are chambered in a handgun such as the TC Contender, Encore, Wichita, etc.

I stand corrected, and thank you for pointing out my mistake. In my haste of compiling the list of legal and illegal calibers for the state, I screwed it up by trying to condense the list into a short, easy to read format. I guess that's why I shouldn't try to copy and paste. ;) I should also mention, that this list was taken from the 2008 firearms regulations for deer hunting; so it's not pertinent to varmint hunting or others.

Would like to get as much donated as possible since it's going for a good cause, but I would be willing to pay where needed if some of them turn out to be hard to get. Being a volunteer instructor doesn't pay much money wise ($0 ;)).

Also, someone on THR said that shipping these across state lines might be a problem; is that true since they are primerless and powderless?

Seeing as I'm not a caliber expert, nor a reloader, nor am I as well educated as the folks that do this type of stuff, I'll correct my error by snipping the whole section instead of just the calibers, that way I don't make the mistake of getting them out of order again:
Shotguns must be 10, 12, 16, or 20-gauge or .410 bore loaded with slugs or saboted bullets.

Handguns, other than muzzleloading, must have a barrel at least 4 inches long and must fire a bullet of .243-inch diameter or larger. The handgun cartridge case, without the bullet, must be at least 1.16 inches long.

Full metal-jacketed bullets are not permitted.
Some types of handgun cartridges legal for deer hunting include:
    .357 Magnum
    .41 Magnum
    .44 Magnum
    .44 Special
    .45 Colt
    .45 Long Colt
    .45 Winchester Magnum
    .35 Remington
    .357 Herrett.

Some illegal handgun cartridges for deer hunting are 38 Special, 38 Smith and Wesson, 38 Colt New Police, 38/200, 38 Long Colt, 38 Super, 38 ACP, 38 Colt Auto, 45 ACP, 45 Automatic and 45 Auto Rim. All 25/20, 32/20 and 30 carbine ammunition is prohibited also.

Rifles must fire a cartridge with a bullet of .357-inch diameter or larger; have a minimum case length of 1.16 inches; and have a maximum case length of 1.625 inches. These rifle cartridges can be used only during the deer firearms season.
Some cartridges that are legal include the following:
    .357 Magnum
    .38-40 Winchester
    .41 Magnum
    .41 Special
    .44 Magnum
    .44 Special
    .44-40 Winchester
    .45 Colt
    .454 Casull
    .458 SOCOM
    .480 Ruger
    .475 Linebaugh
    .50 Action Express
    .500 S&W

Some illegal rifle cartridges for deer hunting are the .30-30 Winchester, .444 Marlin and .45-70 Govt.

No promblem fireball168....anything you can get to me is appreciated, and if you can get the 50AE later that'd be great; if not, it's no problem at all! :)

If I come up with it in the meantime I'll let you know!

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone that has sent packages and helped out with this. I'm still watching for a few in the mail, and just wanted to tell you all how much I appreciate it!

I'm not going to bump this anymore...if anyone has anything else they can help out with, just let me know. Othewise, it's time to let this thread die!
