I purchased 40 rounds of American Eagle 7.62x51 168gr ammo from Cabelas online store, and it arrived today. On the box it states that its 7.62x51, but also says for use in M1A rifles. It even has 7.62-M1A printed on the headstamp. Can I still use this in my Rem700 .308? I'm thinking that I should be able to due to it being 7.62x51, but want to make sure in case I accidentally ordered specialized ammo for an M1A rifle.

    thanks

It is ok to use 7.62 NATO (7.62x51) in rifles marked .308, but best not to do it the otherway around, which is backwards from 5.56x45 which should not be used in barrels marked .223.
