Each winter, RCC offers a precision Air rifle and air pistol league. Every Monday evening in January and February, indoors of course. Score is your 8 best targets during the season, so after you have 8 scores on the books, good scores fired will replace lesser scores.

Lots of fun, social atmosphere, nominal costs, we even have rifles and pellets available for newbies. Not cutthroat competition.

Hi Rich, sounds like a nice way to spend an evening. I have shot steel at RCC, and have a reasonable accurate .177 break barrel rifle, 1000 fps with scope.
What range are the match targets set?
    Any other requirements or restrictions?

    Happy New year,
    Tim

Targets are at 10 meters, we round it off to 33'. If you come, please remind us of your rifle speed, some of our backers are thinner than others. Hope to see you there!

After a bummer last week due to the icy rain forecast, we had 74 entries last night. Fairly evenly divided, we had 42 adult entries, while eight youth combined for 32 entries. As always, youth shoot this activity for free at RCC, with RCC and Vigo County 4H providing the rifles and pellets.

Midway thru the Jan-Feb season, competition has grown a lot closer for the overall scorers!

    End of season update:
We shot a few hundred targets spread over the 8 weeks of this season from 11 adults and 8 youth. Some adults competed in more than one category. Competition grew close as top scores seemed to balance out. Three of the 4 category winners were decided on the last night!!

    On the final night:
The Adult rifle A class (standard 10 meter target) winner was decided literally on the last target of the season by a scant 4 points over 2nd place.

Adult rifle B class winner leapfrogged from third place to win by a single point!

Air pistol had the most contestants and fired the most targets during the year, the winner shot his season best target to pull out a 2 point victory.

Youth rifle: As abilities increased and good scores replaced poor scores, the kids really got into it! While first and second place were decided before the final night, other placings became a horse race. 3rd & 4th were decided by 2 points, 5th & 6th were separated by only 5 points.

Top youth scores earned Dairy Queen gift cards, adults got a cash payback. This whole thing is a low cost, budget friendly (CMP rebuilds are $125 TYD), social event that can be incorporated at most gun clubs during winter months. I encourage other clubs to consider hosting airgun next winter, match takes about 2 hours each day/evening.
