I've always loved the idea of a magnum autoloader. Revolvers are cool and all... but there has been something gnawing at me about having a semi auto that's pushing 44 magnum ish energy.

Recently I began researching into it again and came up with a few options that make sense for me. Given that I've got a stock Colt Government model.

Buying a 400 cor bon barrel and a few small reinforcing parts could get me into the 600-700 ft/lb range. Similar performance to 10mm. Still quite shy of 44 magnum but I don't think I would complain.

Then there is the prospect of buying just a few small reinforcing parts and dabbling in the 45 super world. Again similar performance levels to 10mm. But now with 45 caliber bowling balls.

Then there are the .460 Rowland kits.... Brings the most cost ($350) but also brings the most energy. Numbers vary but I see a lot of loads up there with 44 Mag in the 900 ft/lb range.

None of these options are for any serious use. Just fun blowing up fruit and breaking peoples steel targets. I considered a 10mm 1911 but converting what I have doesnt make sense and I'm not exactly wanting to invest a bunch of money into a dedicated fun gun.

Curious to hear INGOs thoughts and experience with this subject.

If you do go with 460 Rowland and you come down to the Friendship shoot, stop by and let me try it ;)

If you don't want to spend much get the Springfield Ronin 10mm, or for a few hundred less a RIA 10mm.
So far my RIA has done a great job. I need to run a few hundred more rounds through it. It's not been on the range for some time. I've been playing with other tools.

What you have now, 45acp 1911, is a practical gun that ammo can be found at a reasonable cost.

I have several 44 magnums and two 500SW magnums. Never felt the desire for "breaking peoples steel targets". If you want magnum power, get a handgun built for it and can find ammo for.

    I set up a Gen 4 Glock 21 to shoot .45 Super / .450 SMC as a hiking pistol...
It uses a stainless LWD 4.5" Barrel and a 24# recoil spring.
It gives one heck of a punch and is a hoot to shoot!
