I opened carried at walmart and nobody said anything to me...perhaps it's how you carry yourself while armed.

Your conduct and general appearance play a huge role. HUGE.

I have no hard evidence to support this, but I believe that most (and there will always be exceptions) situations where open carry results in a problem occur because the people doing it would otherwise cause people to be nervous or suspicious even if they were not visibly armed.

Logically, however, you'd think people would get a clue. How many criminals go around with a gun showing??? Hint: criminals and people with criminal intent hide their guns until they plan to use them.

I OC'ed in Auburn last week. Went to Fire Mountain. I think that my wife was more concerned about it than anyone else. "You'll scare people". Nope. Didn't happen.

...There was this one guy tho' who kept giving me the 'eye'.

    Maybe he "liked" you? :D

Seriously, I've seen some people eyeing me (more than the usual eyeing I get from being a man-pretty ginormous fat guy), and I think in a lot of cases it's because they are curious and want to ask questions, but they're too shy to approach. Those are exactly the people that I think we can reach, so I try to be as "approachable" as possible. You never know who might be curious and some good answers to their questions could add another pro-RKBA voter to our ranks.

I have purchased several long guns from Wal-Mart in the past. I was also escorted to the door with my purchase, paid for in the store in sporting goods. I also was armed at the time. The "Why" answer was liability!! If on the property of the store and the firearm was forgotten somewhere, then used illegally, the store would be responsible. If you purchase and take from the store, then YOU are responsible. So I am told. Galyan's had the same policy for any firearm. The manager knew I had a license and was armed. Made no difference.

IIRC, walmart is open to the public, but is still private property as opposed to "public property", i.e. sidewalk. They can ask anyone to leave that they choose to ask to do so, for any reason EXCEPT those covered by federal non-discrimination laws, ie race, creed, color, gender, religion, or national origin. Failure to do so can be prosecuted as trespassing. <snip>

So what if carrying a firearm is a religion to you? Or a facet of your religion?

Catholics can't be prevented from giving wine to underage people at Communion...

thats it, who wants to start a religion that says everyone absolutely must have the right to carry 5 pistols, something full auto, and a block of c4 at all times:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    hahaha, ok, j/k

I was open carrying the other day when I was looking at a marlin rifle in the muncie store. The clerk gave a really funny look....no one said a word though, plus I was in my uniform for NCCF, so I doubt they wanted to mess with me:draw:

Actually I'm only half joking. There's a passage in the Bible which reads, I think, "Those of you who do not have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." (I grew up Catholic, and the Bible was not required reading. J/K folks!)

I would think that if the Muslims can force some of their more radical ideas on some impressionable people, that this wouldn't be too much to ask.

I wonder what would happen if you were to answer "why to you carry" with "Because my Lord and Savior demands it. Here, have a tract!" (Keep plenty of tracts on hand...) If you're challenged about being armed, you could sue for religious discrimination!

    Think that'd fly? :D

I went to walmart in greenfield with my p345, and nothing happened! I even bought 210 rounds of Remington .233, 100 round box of .40 S&W, and a 100 round box of 45 ACP just to look like a really bad guy....I must admit, I was disappointed. :tumbleweed:

There is much to be said for Asatru (Full disclosure: I'm an agnostic), the use of weapons and preparation for battle is one of the central parts of the religion. Then there's that whole dying in battle to enter Valhalla thing.

    Speaking of O.C.ing in Wal-Marts.
I went to the O.C. breakfast in Terre haute on Saturday. We then left and went to Wal-mart in Clinton and to a lawnmower service shop.
Then back to Terre Haute where we went to another Wal-mart on 46 on the east side of Terre Haute. Even stopped in Menards for some looking around. Nobody ever said a word. Pretty much an un-eventful day.
