I watched this movie again, and was wondering if there was any type plastic, polymer etc that could withstand the pressure of a 38 Short Colt? Or similar cartridges?
The only metal was the springs, firing pins, and cartridges.
IIRC max pressure for the 38 Short Colt cartridge is 12000psi.
I just don't think it would be possible without steel barrel inserts.
Anyone know if this is remotely possible?
    Or is it just Hollywood?

Looking closely at the de-milled original gun from the movie it sure looks like it was made of metal and then painted. Look at the front lower edge of the grip.

I know the question is if it is hypothetically possible. Just saying the movie gun doesn’t even seem to fit the desired requirements.

Good catch. It said that they used blanks in it.
I just wondered of plastic was strong enough to fire a 38 Short Colt in it. 22lr has more pressure than the 38 Short Colt.
