Finally got to shoot my new toy...This puppy is LOUD!:ar15:
I have determined that my eyes are getting a little too old for iron sights and that I really need some kind of optic I could barely make out the bullseye at 25 yards!

Anyhoo I need practice as I was averaging 3" groups at 25 yards offhand standing.

I was shooting reloads I bought 10 years ago at the gun show, so i cant vouch for the ammo other than it didnt jam and it all fired.

Would a micro red dot sight like the Dr. site be a good choice for this type of gun? This is to be my GO-TO gun, and I want to be accurate with it and I want it to be quick handling.

Buy an Aimpoint Micro; it will get you the lowest rise off the rail.

I was able to get better groups out 'at distance' with my M1a's once I bought a aftermarket stock with a pistol grip. I was able to pull the rifle in tighter and my trigger control improved as well.

The M1a NEEDS a pistol grip; the M14 had one... :dunno:

99% of M14's did not ever have a pistol gripped E2 stock or Sage stock.

E2 stocks came about for the squad automatic rifle role. Later they were/are used for the DMR role.

I agree though, the M14/M1A with a pistol grip is much more user friendly.

Put about 50 rounds through it this weekend.
The trigger pull seems a little heavy to me, and I guess i will just have to concede the fact that I am geting old and jittery, cause its hard to hold it off hand and keep the sights on target.

Maybe a Sage stock is a bad idea after all...lightening it up seems like a better idea to me now that I have played with it for a while.

So a fiberglass folding stock seems like the ticket

Anyone have any experience with either of these stocks?
