It’s a curious thing the Mexicans and their music. No matter how long they have been here, they all listen to that same music. Their youngsters all listen to that same music. i Can listen to rock, bluegrass, country, jazz, classical. My kids had different music. My grandkids have really ****** dumb music they listen to. All different.
Texmex for that similar sounding music is "conjunto." Which basically just means a band, group (conjunction).

If you explore more, you'll find that adaptations of rap, soul, jazz, country, pop rock-ish, but with the same sounds as typical conjunto (band) music, have become mainstays.

Finding a group playing a more soul, blues or jazz style adaptation can be really nice listening.
More vibes, marimba and low voice horns than accordian and trumpets, advanced percussion ensembles, elegant backing vocal suites, etc.

Unfortunately, "radio" $$$$ force most artists into little cubicles, much the same as broadcast and recording entities do to our own popular music.
    :(

Your popularity depends upon your uniqueness in a world of sameness, but your success also requires uniformity and conformity with pre-conceived, established standards.
