    Ok so sorry for the terrible image quality. But these have been bothering me for a while now. They seem to be the same size as a .45 as seen in this picture:

    My grandpa gave me a box of ammo (some old and nasty condition) so that I could get familiar with rounds a few years back. this 42 seems almost the same size as the 45 could it have been the original name? sorry im totally clueless to this

    also at same size of a 9mm there is one with "47z" on the bottom with a sun. Could it be a Jap round?

    Any help would be appreciated :ingo:

    Sorry mods if youd like to move this to ammo section that would be great. I kinda spaced that! :(

    Just figured it was a handgun round and would like to know what handgun shoots it.

    I think that is a military headstamp, and will venture a guess the "42" is year of manufacture. It looks like .45 ACP ammo.

    I believe 42 refers to the year it was manufactured.
    (edit: bah ... beat me to it!)

    For a little more information:
    That ammo was almost certainly manufactured by Remington Arms in 1942 and would therefore be corrosive. Keep that in mind if you shoot it.

    RA42 = Remington Arms .45 Auto mfg 1942
    WCC42 = Winchester Cartridge Co .45 Auto mfg 1942
    ECC42 = Evansville Chrysler Cartridge .45 Auto mfg 1942 (NOTE: This is STEEL CASED! It has been known to break extractors in 1911's!)

    Hold on to those, they are quickly becoming collectors items
