Sadly the holidays are right before the end of the year, which is a common and convenient time to shut a site down.
I hear that. Unemployment is starting to do weird things to my mind. The company I was with lost almost 20% value last quarter. Really it is my fault for going to a company that makes electric vehicle chargers. I almost wish I never left Stellantis now.

It may not be that long. Phone companies are shutting down their old PBXs. Not cost effective to keep them running anymore.
I manage an on site pbx that is hybrid analog, digital and voip using 6 copper lines converted from external voip from xfinity and it's way more cost effective than hosted voip. ymmv.

I was told that here in CP the wall jacks are digital already. Not sure if or how that affects you. It was a disappointment to me because even though the phones are plugged into the ancient wall jacks, if we have no internet, we have no phones.
That's a service choice. There is still copper all over that neighborhood that is live.

The other part of the issue is physcial PARTS for those old equipment are not being made anymore and trying to find replacements is hard, very hard.

A lot of larger sites have non working equipment that they are holding for the spare parts for those sites that are still working. But eventually the rob Peter to pay Paul will come to an end.
This is what will do them in. As parts age out and die like capacitors on cards and such, people will have no choice but to scrap them and get robbed for hosted handset service.

In other news... Printing parts for my low-profile track system for mounting my radio equipment in the new to me truck tonight... Hopefully get the steel parts cut to size by the weekend and then I get my HAM shack back again...
