    NFA Day 2009 AAR:

    I arrived just in time to grab a restroom break and to meet a few fellow INGO'ers before it was time to circle up for a greeting let by Lovemywoods and a safety briefing for all:

    3960307920_db0bc48695.jpg

    After going over basic safety stuff, and some advanced planning contingency plans, it was time to go down to the range and get to business. The hill going there is steep and by the time you are at the range, it is "breath taking" without even seeing the toys. Well... that is.... until you see the toys!

    3959510337_d6daafa116.jpg

    3959528275_c277bcbd7b.jpg

    Soon it was time to get down to business. First up was VUPD's suppressed .22 M16 which had recently been worked on and was having some function issues. That's ok, INGO'ers like colt45er know how to say in the fight:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjbrHO8J63s]YouTube - 06rough22[/ame]

    Then again, other's had no trouble at all like this operator here:

    3960271762_905a789c68.jpg

    Next came a cool demonstration by our host of the noise level differences between .223 suppressed and unsuppressed:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meO1X1_02iw]YouTube - 07loudquiet[/ame]

    Still makes noise, but a whole lot less.

    Then the auto ruger came out and it also had a few issues, especially not liking wolf ammo:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zVR3YUpRZ8]YouTube - 08rugertrouble[/ame]

    But with brass, it seemed to be happier. It was nice to me, even when I drooled on it:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT3ILCD-aOo]YouTube - rugerauto[/ame]

    Some people do make it look better than others though:

    3959552461_d111dcfe49.jpg

    Now, I had every intention of running the MP5 as did others. You just don't get a chance very often to run such a cool bit of metal. And Roto Talker was nice enough to let us drive it till it smoked:

    3963757856_361b7f2de6.jpg

    3963754504_89d6605e49.jpg

    Listen to it sing:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dv3pQgewWI]YouTube - 10mp5fun[/ame]

    Go Tyler24, Go!

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvxQdxl5d-4]YouTube - 10mp5again[/ame]

    My turn!

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htioZgScuTQ]YouTube - 10techresmp5[/ame]

    I was in love. But while new the new beauty was a whole lot of fun, there is no greater subgun than the Mac when it comes to making brass rainbows. Listen to the brass and steel organ sing:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-2BrmCilBI]YouTube - 12macattack[/ame]

    And more rainbows:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1au-5S8hZtA]YouTube - 13macbrass[/ame]

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqhxvLKHjbg]YouTube - 11macrainbow[/ame]

    Roto Talker also brought another toy I had not shot before: an HK SBR. The feel of this rifle was awesome with a very nice balance point and perfect close defense length. The only down side was it's decibel rating. IT WAS LOUD!!! I ended up switching to earplugs and earmuffs later as my first time shooting it I could NOT keep the noise at a comfortable level (I did finish the mag first though):

    3960330324_98306aed4d.jpg

    Now, for those of you who have not attended an NFA day, let me explain that the vendors/members who put up their expensive, rare, and amazing firearms for our enjoyment do it because they want to see us have fun. They also want us to understand how each one works and are very nice and patient with everyone. Note the complete lack of macho in this video where Roto Talker is talking me through how to use his HK53:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2VvxKZE-fo]YouTube - 14hksbr[/ame]

    All day long, people took turns going back to the tables to load up new mags and try new things. Some took up the offered chairs and water and took breaks only to come back for more:

    3959562239_b057321b63.jpg

    3960317554_cc8a5045a7.jpg

    Then out came the Evil Tangos! One looked remenicent to something I had seen before somewhere. Hope he knows how to get out of the way. (Hope viewers have a sense of humor for an inside joke):

    3960337052_358580ed9b.jpg

    As always, the only way to put down watermelons (barring the presence of a .460) is to use a Serbu! Let's see how these INGO members do:

    Clay:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkshu_FueQI]YouTube - 17claytango[/ame]

    Colt45er:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fs5SC5-83Qo]YouTube - 18tango[/ame]

    Hotfarmboy1:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd4hDR08fcw]YouTube - 19tango[/ame]

    ZbornacSVT (who is big enough to pocket carry that Serbu):

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHgyQ_MZ8h8]YouTube - 20tango[/ame]

    Once the onslaught of tango's was done, I took up the Serbu for a few shots, but most of my shot was spent in another shotgun that happened to just be lying there all alone - BigCraig's Saiga Shotty. Here goes 20 rounds in no time at all:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0AL7sp7es4]YouTube - 21saiga[/ame]

    Now, that shotgun might look like a crew served weapon, but it actually handles very comfortably and has less recoil than my pumps. Far less. I was really wanting to try one of these as it solves my main problem with shotguns: slowness to load. The look you see on my face at the end of the video is me trying to do some math, namely how I could possibly free up the money to buy one of those.

    I saw alot of people making that face on NFA day! :rockwoot:

    All too soon it was time to box up the toys and clear up. The timing was just right as a rainstorm was rolling our way. Three loads of gear had to be run up the hill, and the middle one was so big that the ATV slid back down the hill after only making up part way. Maybe Roto Talker and I overloaded it after all:

    3960340294_c815f279d5.jpg

    Oops!

    Just in time all the gear made it to where it needed to be and the eating began. Sadly, I have no pictures of the feast that we experienced. Why? My hands were just too busy!

    Steak, Ribs, chips, cake, pie, cookies, potato salad, and my favorite of all - deviled eggs (which BTW are proof that God loves us). With all that at hand, you bet no pictures were taken. I was, frankly, distracted.

    So we noshed, chatted, pigged out, and had a bunch of fun until the final picture and dark fell. Then it was time for a rainy trip home, with a little less ammo in the cans...

    :ar15:

    Thanks again to all the vendors who brought their guns and gear for us to play with. You spread the word and rainbows of the NFA day and we all learned alot. Thanks to our fine hosts who put up their land, home, food, and bathroom for a bunch of faceless names to come and invade. We most appreciate your confidence (and bravery)!

    And finally, thanks to all the members who came and their families. You guys where all as polite, nice, and well behaved as I expected of INGO members. Without you the day would not happen.

    Thanks again!

    As always, I had a ball... :ingo:

    I've got several pictures that I'll eventually get around to posting, but I'd like to say thanks to everyone involved for making this event happen! It was great to be able to try out all of these different NFA items and I now have a definite idea of what I want to get now. :yesway:

    On the downside, however, some food dish from that night has given me some kind of food poisoning. No fun. :noway:

    Everyone on day one missed all of the mud! Shame on you. LoveMyWoods, you'll be pleased to know that I somehow managed to make it home with very little mud on my white tennis shoes. I do not think I actually got a picture of all of the mud though. Thank goodness for the tarps or else, I would have been up to my knees in mud. Thanks again for putting those tarps down.

    If you are still sick, it isn't food poisoning. If no one else got sick, it also wasn't food poisoning. Hope you feel better soon though.

    If anyone wants bigger copies of the pics in my AAR, PM me. I can link you to bigger copies.

    Not bad for a $100 camera on a really expensive tripod. ;)

    (It got a few laughs from the real photographers there... :): )

    Aside from the video of me running a mag through the MAC, did anyone happen to get any still pictures of me shooting anything? I saw so many cameras, just wondering....

    We have a winner!!!!

    IF it says MCSports on the back of the chair, it is mine...

    Prepping my AAR, almost done with the uploads...

    Indeed it does!

    What would you like me to do with it? Hold on to it? Mail it? Have you pick it up at my house and deliver an Appleseed refresher while you're here (hint;))?

    Here are some possible ideas for a meet up: I'll be at the AR build on October 18th. I may go to Friday Night Steel on October 9th. I recall a thread about a Bloomington area get together...don't know the date, but if you were attending, I might be able to make a trip.

    Send a PM at your leisure and we'll work something out! :)

    Pictures from NFA Day

    My wife took many pictures from Saturday. If you want a higher resolution picture (2-4 MB), send me a PM.

    It was a great day except for a bit of mud. Lots of fun for everyone!

    I’ve got some more pictures, but the uploading to TinyPic is so slow with my internet connection that I think I could have driven to my son’s home in Greenwood, uploaded the pictures, and driven home (50 min each way) and STILL have saved time! I’ll get the others going tomorrow.
