The .17 HMR is much flatter shooting, and not as affected by wind. My wife zeroed her Savage at 100 yards. Anywhere from 25-100 yards she can just hold on target and never be more than 1/2" high or low. It's also a very accurate round, with her being able to routinely shoot 3/4" groups at 100 yards.

    Welcome to the site! :welcome:

The big thing I hear about the 17HMR is that it shoots flatter than the 22WMR. I am sure others will be here soon with more answers.

I'm not too familiar with the .17 HMR. However, welcome to the site. By the way, posting in all caps is considered SHOUTING and bad web etiquette. Just an FYI.

i say very much more affected by wind.much less knockdown power from 17 grain bullet.is flatter shooting though and more accurate.i believed all that hype .everyone i know goes back to 22 mag,for larger critters.in tenn. at night you can only use rimfire and no light.i would rather use heavier bullet from 22 mag.i like 17 hmr and it has a place in my collection of rimfires.fun for blowing up things like fruit or water bottles.17 mach 2 is an accurate round too and alot cheaper to shoot.

If you are talking fps. then a good 22 mag will reach 2350. a 17 hmr will reach 2750. with a 17gn bullet. It's all in what you want to kill, or blow up. I have a .17 mach 2, 17 hmr, 22 mag, 22 LR. I like the 17 Hmr the best. Bullets are pricey. I usally buy when I find a sale, and to me a sale is 10.99 or lwr.:D

I do not own a 22WMR. I also do not own at 17HMR, and never will. I will say one thing. I can shoot the caps off a 20 ounze bottle all day long with my Marlin .22LR, at fifty yards. To me 17HMR's are all hype. They are too pricy for what you get, and ammo no way in hell!

I recently traded for a .17HMR Tracker and was quite surprised at how well it shot. I think the noise surprised me more than anything. I didn't expect such a loud bang from such a tiny cartridge. I need to find a local supplier for the ammo though. I think I paid $14 for a box if CCIs. I'm HOPING I can find it cheaper. I'd like to get a CZ 452 in .17HMR to go with the revolver. Sorry I didn't answer any of your questions and just spouted off about my experiences. Welcome aboard, I'm new also.

If you look around a bit, you should be able to find it for $12 or so. It's a lot cheaper than it used to be, when my wife first bought hers.
