My wife has always been reluctantly accepting of my firearms (she is an accomplished bow shooter and would rather shoot that)...

She never became interested in my guns because the semi's were too hard for her to rack the slide and our revolvers had a heavy trigger pull. Both kept her uncomfortable with the idea of having a gun she couldn't use easily...

A couple weeks ago, we spent several hours at Midwest in Mishawaka (thanks Sharon for your patience with us). I believe my wife handled every revolver in the store (some many times) before deciding on the S&W 642.

Today was her first opportunity to actually fire the 642. She loves it... She said it felt great in her hands and didn't beat her up to fire it. She left the range pretty excited. Very good grouping for first time with this gun. (For the first time, she said she actually had fun).

I never pushed her to own a firearm, she took her sweet time (been married 30+ years). Now if I can get her to join INGO...

    Congratulations on/to the new handgunner.

If she likes handcrafts, maybe you can get her interested in reloading whatever caliber [STRIKE]you[/STRIKE] she likes to shoot the most...:D

Liking handcrafts is not a guarantee. I knit, quilt, and embroider as well as fashion my own home decor on occasion. I have about as much desire to reload for enjoyment as jumping in a pit of hungry alligators after I'd been dipped in chum.

But you could get lucky. :):

My wife hopped on board too

My wife and I have been married now for about 5 years. In those 5 years she's always enjoyed going to the range with me and shooting. Never really been intimidated by any of my guns and always has been willing to try them at least once. There are some that she likes more than others, but hey that's part of it. When we first met, she had never fired a gun, so I started her out on my Marlin Mod. 60, and my P22. She really enjoyed shooting those and became an great shot. Recently we were talking and she mentioned something about wanting to get her LTCH and her "OWN" gun:rockwoot:. I was all for this and told her that we'd start looking around, and letting her get the feel of different types and models. After a few weeks of heading out to guns stores and handling some she decided that she wanted a small revolver because she liked the way it fit into her hand. I told her that I wanted her to fire different ones before she made a decision, so that she would know what kind of recoil to expect. This past Sunday we met up with another INGOer and she was able to fire a S&W airweight, my LCP, and a couple others. After our range session she decided she was ready to make her first purchase. My wife is now the "official" owner of a S&W 442 Airweight. Once we got home I told her that now that it had been fired, it was time to learn one of the most important steps to gun ownership. It was time for her first cleaning. I went threw the entire process, of complete breakdown and cleaning of her new revolver and explained to her, that after every time the weapon sees range time that it must be cleaned. After we were done cleaning and had everything put away, she thanked me and said that seeing the entire cleaning process gave her even more respect for "being a responsible gun owner". Next step... apply and get her LTCH. Happy shooting y'all! :draw:

I was never really into guns either until my boyfriend finally got me to shoot one for the first time a few weeks ago! I was hesitant at first, but then I started to get more comfortable around them and now I love guns!! I can't wait to move to IN so I can finally own a gun! :)
