    Fellow INGOers,

Recently I have posted a couple of times on Facebook (unprecedented for myself) relating to guns and fighting back at the mainstream media. I have only posted twice as I do not want to alienate my Facebook friends who may have opposing views. I wanted to do it in a way that presented facts that cannot be argued. I do not have the Facebook friend base to really reach out to many people. I thought it would be a good idea to post here on INGO what my latest post was in hopes that people would copy and past on their wall/timeline (or whatever they call it these days), or whatever form of social media they wish. I'm not sure this tactic is very effective and am curious to hear what others think.

    Thank you.

    Is the sky really falling?

With all this talk of the evil black rifles and gun control these past few weeks, one would think that we are living in a dangerous and vile society and guns are to blame. What’s worse is that the politicians and the media are creating a perception that the US is going downhill faster than the Titanic.

What if I told you 20 years ago that in 20 years you would be living in a society where there are almost as many guns as there are people and nearly half of all Americans owned a gun? Well, that day is today. The number of guns in the US has been outpacing the population. Let’s face it; making a gun is much quicker than making a baby.

Let’s take a step back for a moment and look at this by the numbers. In 1992 the population was 255,029,699 with a violent crime rate of 757.7 per 100,000 and a murder/non-negligent manslaughter rate of 9.3 per 100,000. Fast forward 19 years to 2011 the population was 311,591,917 with a violent crime rate of 386.3 per 100,000 and a murder/non-negligent manslaughter rate of 4.7 per 100,000.

Nope, I did not get those numbers backwards; there is in fact half the violent crime and murder/non-negligent manslaughter rate than there was almost 20 years ago! All while having a larger population and more guns! Is the sky really falling?

This information was obtained from our friends at the FBI and I will provide the link below. I sincerely hope that we can keep this trend up while preserving our freedoms. To help preserve those freedoms, please check out the first link provided and tell Congress that you do not support a ban on any type of firearm or limit of magazine capacity.

Thank you and have a happy Gun Appreciation day!

I will copy and post it. I dont give a crap if someone defriends me because of my pro 2A views. If that is the case I dont need them as friends anyway.

I've seen too many well-meaning gun owners allow their anger to get the best of them in defending the 2A and undermine their intentions.

Keep a calm level head, state facts, avoid the cliches, and attack the underlying assumptions of the opponent.

I have been defriended, on more than one occasion, for my political views. There are a couple people that I'm still friends with that, I know have me on ignore. I speak my mind, and I have been taken out of context a few times. I try to clarify before posting, sometimes it still ends up clear as mud.

This does not stop me from posting, but I re-read and proof read before posting, my goal is not to offend people, rather to educate. It seems that the lefties can post whatever they want, no matter how hateful or full of truth it is.

Always take the high road. Don't fall for the lefties' games.

I have posted so much pro 2nd stuff on facebook that only a few of my friends still read my posts.
Keep it up. The more we put it out there on any media the more people will become aware and maybe even learn to care.

Where ever my GPS says I am
Not me personally, but was watching my works facebook page. If someone didn't agree with this one person, she blocked them and said they were attacking and stalking her. In truth, they didn't agree with her. It is quite funny actually.

So far my post seems to have been well received and have had a couple of friends share it and some of their friends even shared it. I only read one post where the person said that mass murder rates have gone up and that nobody needs to own an Assault Weapon. My hopes with this post is to put things into prospective for people who are not gun people, but not anti-gun. I don't want to loose them to this anti-gun rhetoric that the media is constantly spoon feeding them. I provided the link to the bottom of the post to in hopes that those who are pro-gun might actually take the time to write a short message against upcoming proposals for an AWB.

I've seen too many well-meaning gun owners allow their anger to get the best of them in defending the 2A and undermine their intentions.

Nate is absolutely correct here! If I may add; be the nice guy otherwise your views will be seen as extreme and invalid to them or others. If someone becomes hostile, they are digging their own grave so let them and ignore them.

Thanks, I've learned the hard way too about internet anger and social media lol.

I agree about NOT being overly political. The beauty of FB is it allows you to show who you really are, and allows people to see that a gun owner is a normal person that happens to own a firearm.

Make like one political post a week max. Make sure it is SOCIAL by and large. Otherwise you are really just another political spam platform - and people dislike that intensely. (Myself included.)

I have had family members defriend me on FB for my pro 2nd Amendment posts. Sandy Hook is a very effective psyop.....

Me as well. I lost a friend of 23 years because of it. He was brainwashed by BHO, and I dealt with it, but then he started in with me being some kind of psycho, next thing you know he's putting me and my loadout on blast the interwebs.

Hell, my fiancee is getting fed up with me as well. F em. I'm passionate about my rights and my country, they don't like it? They know where the door is.

Those who oppose or disagree with my beliefs and the way I express them can go away. I have eliminated a lot of so called friends over the years and am better off for the effort. I have a handful of like minded reliable friends and I am good with this. There are many acquaintances and I will share time with them on occasion but again, no whacky libs, leftist's or socialists allowed. My space is precious and I choose who shares it with me.

    Great post OP
