Metal Detecting - Atlantic seaboard (OBX) + hurricane = ideal

Growing up with a White's metal detector and reading all the related mags, I always read where the hurricanes that hit along the outerbanks are relished for their ability to dredge up treasures onto the beaches.

I can't help but think back to those articles I read as a kid. I was just at the OBX.

Anyone else into metal detectors in the past or even now?
I wonder what the chances are of some new 'loot' being washed ashore?
